Flinders University vs University of Queensland

Hi

I have been offered to study medicine by the above 2 universities for year 2004.

I would appreciate if graduates from either of Flinders or UQ can kindly offer their views on which is a better university. *sign - have to make the decision soon as the deadline is on 14 Nov 03*

Thanks!

UQ v Flinders

Here are some of the differences I noticed (as an applicant who interviewed in Aus. at both and who also must choose):

UQ
---

Hot, humid (sub-tropical) w/ warm ocean + scuba nearby (but not directly on coast)
Vibrant city life (1.5 mill., more night life)
Population primarily of N. Europ. and E. Asian decent
Brunei (Borneo) rotations available
No agreements with US electives programs
Little time allowed back in N. America to do electives
Huge modern main medical complex
Larger class size (~200)
Newer at marketing to N. Americans

Flinders
---------

On coast but cold water; cooler and drier weather
Laid back city life (1.0 mill., most places close at night)
Population primarily of N. Europ. decent
Much of 4th year electives can be done in N. America
Agreements with Columbia Univ., Yale for electives
Smaller class size (~100)
Personal touch/responsive in its marketing (e.g., Tony Edwards + support administration)

I was just looking at cost of living -- the two cities are nearly identical.

While both do PBL, I *think* UQ does a bit more didactic learning and less clinical in the first year (while on the St. Lucia campus).

I'm normally at SDN forums (pitman) if you want to contact me.
