Getting an Interview at U of Q
Guys, I have a 3.1 GPA overall and a 24 on my MCAT, would this be good enough for me to get an interview with U of Queensland GEMP or just good enough for them to consider me for an interview? Thanks. To have real chance of getting in, what should my MCAT be? About a 27-28??

Yes, you will probably get an interview. However, your stats are about as low as they ever accept (particularly MCAT) -- 24 is the lowest, while the ave is 28. Increasing your score even by a couple points will help your chances substantially, giving a little slack for you on the interview score.

Once you pass the minimum GPA requirement, your MCAT/GAMSAT score and your interview are going to make or break you. The interview should not be underestimated, they really want to know if you have a serious interest in medicine. There's a company that offers coaching and interview prep for the ACER and undergraduate programs, I could pm the company.

How ridiculous. The person asked a question and got polite answers.
The 3.1 GPA looks too low to (isn't that 4.3 in Aus GPA? nearly all schools have minimum 4.5, with most at 5 and some at 5.5). |

I actually spoke with someone who evaluates foreign transcripts, a 5.0 is equal to a 2.0 on the US scale. At Sydney they consider a North American GPA of 2.7 to be equal to a 5.5. In other words its a lot easier to get into an Australian medical school than one in the USA. The poster above mentioned an MCAT of 28 being the average at Queensland, that is about the same at the better Caribbean programs.

I really dont understand how this North American and Australian GPA conversion works. From what GeorgeMD2B said a 2.0=5.0 and a 2.7=5.5
If you plot that on a graph you need to use a polynomial regression line as it is not linear and unfortunately, according to my regression line I get a 2.7=5.79. Has anyone else tried to do a conversion chart? Also others have said that you can do a direct conversion using percentages such as a 2.7=4.725 because 2.7/4=0.625 and 0.625x7=4.725 So which one is right? In my own opinion I dont understand why a 5/7 would be equal to a 2/4. but who knows? |
