Question Match/residency Fairs

Dose AUC like some other schools host a residency fair for fith semester students with such events as interview techniques; help on personal statment and you Curriculum Vitae? If so how many hospitals show up for this type of event and can anybody attend?

they dont do it 5th semester.... they do have a clinical fair where reps from hospitals that auc students do rotations in come to the island. however, it has nothing to do with residency.

doing anything about the match during 5th smester is way too early. most are 1-1.5 years away from even thinking about eras and a CV. 5th semester students are much more worried about their looming step 1 exam.

there was a match interview workshop offered at the hospital that i did rotations at.... but this was during the fall of the match year....... when they offered it.... i had gone on 1 interview already.

one step at a time.

I would rephrase it as step 1 at a time

Just was reading some info I recieved form SGU and they mentioned it for their third year student. Also during my interview at the Brody SOM(ECU) the tour guide who was a second year student said that they hold these typs of events twice a year and welcome 1st and 2nd year students just for the info. Some third years even try to set up interviews at programs they are interested in.

well, if sgu does it for their third year students.... then it definetely would be located at some place other than grenada.... such as a hospital in the states. the majority of sgu's rotations are in new york.... thus the logistics of doing one in new york for pretty much all third year students seems good. also, it is probably offered toward the end of their 3rd year..... which would be relevent for them since they are on the doorsteps of eras by then.

as far as brody som, from your post...... it sounds to me that they hold it at the school and welcome 1st and 2nd years for the info.... but it is really conducted for the late 3rd year students who are about to be in the match. once again, this works because in us schools, most clinical students are in and around hospitals near the school's main campus...... totally different than any carib school.

if auc or any other carib school would hold it on any island...... it really doesnt benefit the people who really need it the most.... the people actually about to start the match. like i said before..... it would be jumping the gun bigtime for students who didnt even take step 1 yet.

now, like i said before..... auc's students in 3rd year are mostly located in four separate states at any given time.... cali, michigan, ny, maryland. for this case..... auc would have to run 4 separate workshops which is a little harder than just holding a single one. however, like i said in the past..... my hospital at the time (providence...in conjuction with auc) ran a workshop for the first time last year. it is possible that they were testing it out there and will expand to other core site hospitals (if they didnt even already do it).

Thanks for the info. This helps more than you think. I have been getting alot of info from SGU and AUC and this was the only thing that really stood out. I like that AUC has the small classes which would make it more peosonal for me. Congratts on being a new mod and on the match. I hope I could be as lucky as most of you have been so far.
