Can I get a elective rotation at ANY hospital
I have read a lot of threads on where we do our core rotations in New york or in cali some in chi-town. I know that they say that we can do rotations at any US hospital that lets you. My question is how many hospitals actually lets you. Do you get rejected a lot from hospitals? Is there hospitals that always accept IMG for electives? Does AUC have a list of hospitals that accept IMG's for elective rotations? I asked becasue i heard elective rotations are suppost to be easier to get so we should have no problem getting them right......

Yes, there is a list that AUC apparently updates every year(?), semester(?) of sites where people have done at least 8 weeks of electives, along with the contact info of the site.
Go to the website of the program/univ where you would like to rotate and their policy for visiting elective students should be spelled out. I'm sure people have had problems with sites being LCME-only, or that they require physician sponsorship, or have Step 1 cutoffs, but all of the places I have looked into allow IMGs with no restrictions (as space allows, after all of their local students have been scheduled). |

I'm not talking bout DO schools but well est. LCME accrediated schools. I want to come back to texas can I do electives at Baylor or Uni of Texas at houston. I have hard of people continually getting rejected for hospitals for electives, but having to apply to a board range to get one place.

If you go to the website of the locations you would like to do rotations at the requirements are very clearly spelled out. especially at sites in tx.
keep in mind we aren't in electives just yet. i have heard of aucers (not many) getting rotations at good sites in tx. some aucers report that it was easy to set it up with a phone call and a submitted application. some aucers reprot that it was extremely difficult (borderline harassment on the part of the student) to get a good site in tx to approve them for electives. good luck! With that said and done, your electives are your electives. Choose where you want to do it and go for it. Remember that you need to complete cores at AUC contract sites. |
