Hello -
Im wondering about Sub-I ? Is is necessary to take one during our medical career..?
And for the picture for ERAS - does it have to be a professional one? Or will any old picture do?
Thanks!

Sub-I's look good good. Even better if you do a Sub-I in the field you want to specialize in. But you don't 'have' to do one. As far as ERAS photo, I woudn't do a 'Glamour Shots' or anything, but I wouldn't have a mug shot, either. Nice, yet neutral shirt and a benign smile (like med psych- just kidding) should be fine.
DD is right. Program officials do look at pictures. As for subinternships, some programs have sub-Is that parallel the intern schedule (calls, morning reports, rounds, etc.). It looks good on paper esp. if completed before or during the interview season.

I don't think Sub-I's are necessary for all fields, however, if you're pursuing something like IM, a medicine Sub-I can potentially work in your favor.
As for the ERAS picture...I just did what they asked. Full frontal view of face and shoulders...I also dressed professionally for the photo (at least from the waist up, hehe) representative of what they can expect to see on interview day.

Hey Shagun, how are you?....I am not sure about the sub-I thing...I am pretty sure I am going to do one, because it can't hurt.
As for the picture, I have heard that the residency "people" don't see your picture when they decide whether or not they want to interview you, but once you have been asked to be interviewed, they get access to your picture. I am planning to get a professional pic taken (not Glamour Shots...hehe...can you imagine...with all the blue eyeshadow and teased up hair..hehe) next weekend. Just a simple color photo of me in my white coat and maybe a cheesy stethescope around my neck - we'll see. I figure that it can't hurt to have a nice picture along with my application - I just want everything to look and present itself as professional as possible.
Hope you are doing well!

We're doing good here in West Virginia. I'm still working as a Pediatric Nurse in Kentucky and J- is swamped with school. He just started fourth year and has narrowed down his interests to three fields now, or at least I hope so.Originally Posted by anencephalic
