Question question regarding HEALTH INSURANCE + CUSTOMS + CASH MONEY

Hi,

I need information about health insurance for students in AUA. What kind should we purchase? and how much will it cost per month/year?

Another question I have is about how much money we can carry with us when we enter the Antigua Airport? And what kinds of questions Customs would ask us? Like would customs ask, "Are you carrying cash, and how much?" do you have to declare?

Thanks.

If you have your own health insurance, make sure it covers emergency evac back to the states. If your insurance doesn't cover that, the school will make you buy their health insurance..i dont remember the exact cost, but it's not much. But again, it only covers getting flown back to miami..if you break your leg or something non-emergent, you'll be stuck paying out of your pocket. You dont need any money when entering antigua, but to leave you have to pay 20$US or 50$EC. (cheaper to pay 50 EC btw). I have no idea on the exact amount of cash you can carry into antigua, but if you're carrying around 10 grand, i think it would be easier to keep 500 bucks in your pocket, and put the rest in the bank..then have it transferred down here..or in cashier's checks.

What do you mean by emergency evac back to the states?

If you get seriously injured you DON'T want to be going to the hospital here. You want to be flown back to the states (specifically miami) for treatment. They can do routine stuff here, but anything major (trauma patients, burns, limb replacement, subdurals, etc) will have to be flown out. Basically the hosp here will do what a smaller hosp back in the states would do. Stabilize you the best they can, and have you transferred to the nearest trauma center.
