LORs: how to wave the right to read them??

    Hi all,

I am so confused about How exactly wave your right to read your LORs?

1.Do you ask your LOR writer (MD) to send it directly to ECFMG? or ERAS?
Or can the hospital clinical coordinator do it?

    2. Do you attach the LOR cover sheet saying that you've waived your right to see it?
Or do you state it IN the body of the LOR??

    Please help.

With my LOR's I had the writer add it at the end of the letter. Sometimes the Doc's just have you write letter and they sign, in that case just add it in yourself at the end before the signature. Some departments do keep a track of your letters and can send them off to ERAS for you, but IMO you're better off collecting and sending them yourself if given that option.

    Thanks for answering.
    But I still don't understand.
How exactly to do I send the "waived" LOR (even if I saw it) to ECFMG?
By mail? Then how do they know it is "waived"?

    Thanks.

there is a cover sheet that you send with the LOR that has a box that you have to check that says you waived your right to see it

    Hi,
    Thanks for the answer.

Where do I get that cover sheet and what do I do next (after I checked the box for waiving the right to see? I mean, where do I send the LOR??)
Also, I read on another forum, that the body of the LOR should have a statement saying that the student wived the right to see it, because ERAS will only upload the LOR itself in the system, and not the cover sheet, so the programs won't know if you waived or not...

    Is this correct?

Why are you waiving that right? Nobody cares.

ya, I didn't waive my right to any of them. If you ever want to download them in the future from eras you can't if you waive the right. Didn't impact me one bit
