If you are interested in applying for a surgery residency, be sure to tell your clinical coordinator (don't forget to CC the clinical dean). That might give you some leverage. I was originally scheduled to do my family med rotation after ERAS applications went out. But when I told them that I was applying for family residencies and that I wanted to have recommendations from family physicians, they made arrangements to accommodate me. Best of luck.
