I called the school and NN told me that the school is notified 2 months in advance if anything is happening. She told me it was a rumor.

We'll see, I'm going to call the hospital on Monday to try to sort this out.

If anyone else gets any info - or if they've spoken to the hospital, please post in this thread.

thanks

I was checking the acgme website and it still has Richmond listed under participating institutions under New York Medical College St. Vincents. So I am assuming that the rotation is still green?

Also any feedback or reccomendations on places to live, the rotation itself or texts to study for surgery would be great help.

Thanks In Advance

I think I can say most of us like the rotation. Dr. P is the program head and gives our daily lectures and does a pretty good job. Dr. H is the director, and we have sicu rounds every MWF.

Schedule works by assigning groups of 2 to:
2 weeks ortho/hand/ENT
2 weeks uro/neuro/plastics
2 weeks ER
6 weeks General Surgery

He gave that job to 2 "chief students"

We have call every 6 days, where we stay overnight and leave after rounds the next morning. (They have students here called 5th pathways who have jumped on this month, so luckily we're Q12 now - yay, but I don't know how that'll work for other groups)

Common day in general starts at 6AM, rounds usually last till 7-7:30ish, first case starts at 7:30 (assigned the night before when the OR schedule comes out). When not in surgery we're responsible for:
1. Labs on all the pts in the lab book
2. Any imaging done on the patients (you have to either run down to radiology for the report or listen to the dictation --- some of the accents are not pretty)
3. Vitals for afternoon rounds
4. Anything else the residents ask.
And finally, afternoon rounds which can occur between 4pm and 7pm.

Hope that helped.
