Any AUA students practicing in Texas?

Are AUA students allowed to practice in Texas? What are the requirements?

I keep hearing only students from St George's and Ross University can practice in Texas.

There are a handfull of off-shore schools with TX "approval" which means TX treats their graduates essentially as TX medical school graduates.

AUA graduates and graduates from other schools which have not yet received "approval" would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis when applying for licensure.

I just called the Texas Board and was told AUA is not on the list of medical schools whose graduates "do not have to prove substantial equivalence of their education." I was given a website that has the complete list of medical schools that can practice in Texas. I noticed Kasturba Medical University is on the list. Does anyone know if AUA's clinical program is affliated with that university?

I don't think we can claim to be KMC students to get licensed in Texas, since their accreditation is for the main university rather than KMCIC. The important thing for Texas is to do Green electives in addition to Green cores. They used to have a neurology rotation requirement, but the last I heard they no longer consider neurology to be a required core.
Oh, and if AUA applies for California accreditation in the next six years, pray that they get approved. Otherwise, Texas is out too (as it is for St. Matthews).

Applying for California approval should be done cautiously. Getting approval would be a great for the school in regards to showing a high standard and marketing wise in attracting students. But, getting disapproved has consquences as other states use their list. As somoene that doesn't want to practice in CA, this proposition has risk and little reward. The risk of AUA being on the disapproved list and more states adopting it. I hope they proceed cautiously towards this goal. I eventually would like to see AUA get CA, but not proceed prematurely.

My friend, who's from Houston, TX, said that she knows of a few people doing residency in Texas who graduated from here, which is one of the reasons she came to school here.

Wasn't last year AUA's first year of having anyone apply for match? None of the 6 people listed as eligible and that matched were in texas programs.

unless the school either did not report these or they listed it wrong on their site, but as grobble said, there can't be anyone doing residency in Texas from AUA. i've looked up almost all of the grads, the only two I couldn't seem to find were the surgery residents. maybe one of them transfered...not sure.

Your friend might mean KMC graduates, of which there are plenty in every state. Many of the senior attendings at both Harbor and St. Joseph-Mercy Oakland are KMC grads.
