Attendance policy and clinicals

Can anyone tell me if I need to sit for the USMLE before starting clinicals?
What's the attendance policy at AUA? Do all the finals consist of shelf-exam? please let me know. I am in the process of transferring to AUA from MUA

Yeah you need to take and pass Step 1 before clinicals. The attendance policy during clinicals is 100%, obviously. I don't know how it is enforced in the various fifth semester programs.

According to the syllabus Miami attendance is 85% mandatory. We have to sign a roll every class and we also do a mandatory 15 hrs of clinicals each week. At the end of the week we fill out a form with our hours and the physician signs off on the days we worked.

A regular week looks lie this for me right now.

M-W Noon-5 see patients and do write ups
W 10-Noon H&P presentations and reviews
Friday Noon lecture
Saturday 1 hour of training on physicals

All in all it's a very light schedule and allows for copious time to study for the Step if you're disiplined enough.

In Miami you are assigned to a particular location. The doctor in the area that you are assigned to or rotating thru gives you the hours you need to be there. So from my experience, you cannot make your own schedule.

That depends on the doctor you are assigned to. The doc I am assigned to is very laid back and we can arrange our hours anytime during the week. However the students assigned to the hospitals have a schedule from 8-4...and I believe 5 days a week. Better them than me.
