Hi friends,

I am going to start my 6th semester clinical rotations as a transfer student at AUA.I'm from Asia and I don't know any details about the clinical rotations and I don't know anyone here.So, please let me know the answers for the follwing Q's.

1. If I want to start the Internal medicine clinical rotation on september, when should I schedule the rotation?. I mean how many weeks or months before I have to schedule that?

2.What are the green book hospitals in New York for Internal medicine ?.

3. Is it possible to select the hospital which I prefer to do my clinical rotation?

4.What is the dress we should wear during the rotation as a female medical student?.Do I need to buy a white coat or any special uniform for the rotation?

5.What are the books I have to buy for the internal medicine rotation?

6. Normally at what time we have to go to the hospital in the morning and what time we can finish ?. Is there any on calls during the rotation?

7.Do I need to take mal practice insurance?

To try and answer your questions:

1. Internal Medicine is one of the most essential for Step 2, so if you want it for September call the school as soon as possible and schedule it.
4. Profession attire whether pants suit, skirt and blouse, anything that you would wear for an interview. Yes you need to buy a white coat when you buy make sure it is a student lab coat, long sleeve but short length. Some rotation allow you to wear scrubs but you will be told if you can only after orientation.
5. Harrison's is the gold standard for IM, buy the small book the big one is good but too much information for right now. First AID CK is ok but not enough especially if you really want to learn medicine.
7. you don't need malpractice insurance the school covers you but you need to show proof of current medical insurance to start clinicals or you will be billed automatically for it.
