I would put a million bucks they didn't do a site visit at USH or scrutinized the curricilum like they do Caribbean schools. If grads from USH that passed all USMLE exams can get liscensure after the Visa process and doing a US residency; why shouldn't Caribbean grads who passed all step exams, actually did clinicals in the US, understand the US health system and speak english as their first language be able to do the same.
of course they didn't do a site visit. the reason that those schools are approved is because under California law, a school that is graduating physicians to practice in their own country (i'm not sure exactly how they word it). thus, the majority of USH grads aren't coming to the US to practice, they're practicing in their own country. Caribbean schools are set up for students who couldn't get a spot in their own country...even if these schools are better than some of the other foreign schools.

also Caribbean schools are set up for students to pass the USMLE exam, other foreign school's curriculum is not set up that way.

i would say that the basic sciences in europe is taught much, much better than any school in the carribean. however, the clinical aspect lags behind the schools in the carribean because they CAN do their clinicals in the US. whereby, European students can not. not taking into account some polish schools and clinicals set up by the students themselves.

i spoke with a relative that just graduated from SGU. he said SGU is the best medical school (in general) outside of the USA. i found this hillarious!! i guess oxford, cambridge, or even semmelweis university in budapest with all their noble prize winners aren't as good as SGU... .

i think the better wording of his statement would be, "..it is the best medical school for Americans outside of the USA".

electives

How many total of weeks are electives? Do we choose which ones? Does it has to be done in AUA affiliated hospitals or we can go to any ACGME hospitals. Thanks for your input.
