    One bedroom Rental/Ruth's Place

    Hello!

I'm looking for a one bedroom rental, ideally all-inclusive close to AUA. Looking to spend $750 at most.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a property that may fit these specifications?

Also, I've come across a property called Ruth's Place. Has anybody rented from them? If so, what were the accommodations like?

    Thanks!

    Hi everyone,

I am current student, and when I first got to the Island the housing situation was not fun, and the school was not very helpful. So I thought that I would give back by giving some helpful information for housing at AUA.

First I arrived at Ruth's place or Ruth's apartment Antigua Apartment Rentals: Ruth's Place that was recommended by many of the students, I almost wanted to cry when I got there. The place was filled with mold, and there was nothing you could do to get rid of the smell. I had friends that cleaned, and paid people to clean and still they could not get rid of it. Not only that, but there are roaches, ants, and rats in the building. The ventilation is really bad, and there is dust all over the place. There are spider web everywhere and it is dark and not well lit. Not to mention you will run into problems with flooding in the bathroom, and hot water may be an issue.

Students end up staying because at first they think that they will save money since it is "ALL INCLUSIVE" , but when they get to Ruth's place, they are stuck because they already paid for the deposit. SO WARNING: DO NOT PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT FOR A LONG TERM LEASE. Since she has short term lease available for 150$.

Some students stay because they think that they are getting a good deal and Ruth is nice but her services and accommodations is not worth it. You are better off spending your money at a nice hotel for 1 or 2 days and then find a nice place that you like. Otherwise you will loose your deposit to a few sleepless nights at Ruth's Rat house. Also Ruth's apartment is not consistent with what is available. You may get lucky and get a better room, or you may not be so lucky and get a garbage dump. But from my personal experience none of the rooms I have seen was worth the pricing that she asked for.

There are cheap and adequate housing just down the street from Ruth's called ******* apartment. My roommate and I found this place for 600$/month, so each only pay 300$/month. The apartment is a two bedroom townhouse, it is absolutely beautiful, well lit and safe (have not had any trouble yet). Laundry is also available for 2 EC to wash and 2 EC to dry. ******* apartment includes everything except electricity, but if you stay at school all the time then electricity should be cheap. We paid the 600$/month at Ruth's for a tiny studio for two that was infested with rats, roaches, ants, spiders, and mold.

Be patient with housing at AUA and you will find gems, rush and you will end up in a land mine. You can find a great place to live on a budget, don't let the landlords or the school tell you otherwise!!! Be patient and look a bit for better options, use your money to stay in a nice place to save yourself the stress, don't put it into a deposit that you will loose because of unbearable conditions.

I will post more helpful housing tips and more housing gems in Antigua.

    good luck with housing.
