    What is going on

I saw the following warning on the ECFMG's directory of medical schools:

    • Note: As of January 1, 2018, students and graduates of this medical school with a graduation year of 2018 and later are not eligible to apply to ECFMG for ECFMG Certification, which also renders them ineligible to apply to ECFMG for the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) as a step toward ECFMG Certification.

    • Note: Currently, students and graduates of Atlantic University School of Medicine are subject to enhanced procedures that must be met in order to be eligible for ECFMG Certification and USMLE examinations that lead to ECFMG Certification. ECFMG will provide information and instructions to applicants upon receipt of application.

What is going on with this school?

I went to the NY Office and sat down with Board folk. They were quite honest and showed me the info. Nice two guys.

I wouldn't waste time and money on a school that would rather change island than be reviewed for accreditation. This is a bad sign and this school will disappear just as quickly as it moved from St.Lucia to Antigua. They bought some time but 2023 is just around the corner!

Students attending this school should be aware that their diplomas may not be worth the paper its printed on once 2023 rolls around. You can continue mailing your checks to the P.O. Box in Long Beach, NY, but you have warned.

Hey Med Grad, Your telling people in other forums that other schools are closing and that no offer of accreditation was made by CAAM. Now here your saying this Uni should sit tight and go for accred. Are you a troller? Just curious. I love ValueMD reminds me of the supermarket tabloids.

I am not affiliated with AUSOM nor student of AUSOM. I am not supporting or condemning AUSOM. I am making a statement. I was a medical student from St. Lucia from a different school and after waiting several weeks for an answer, last month I transferred out to another school located on a different island. I do not think it is fair what St. Lucia govt did to the students. They should have given schools reasonable time to get the CAAM-HP and give students time to complete their education. I feel bad for the students who would be graduating early next year ( many of them are my personal friends ) and unable to get their ECFMG certification. In this case AUSOM is doing the right thing and keeping the best interest of the students in mind. AUSOM is not a fly by night school. They build facilities and campus in St. Lucia and started doing things in the right direction. It takes time and money to get the CAAM-HP and I think they are doing their best to reach that goal. I hope other schools in St. Lucia and St. Lucia government make a decision soon and give peace of mind to their students.

They never build anything, always renting with minimal investment in infrastructure. The same owner as of ill fated St. Christopher school of medicine.

    Cheers,

This is what ECFMG is showing on the school's directory listing:

"Note: In 2017, ECFMG determined that certain staff / officials of Atlantic University School of Medicine engaged in irregular behavior in connection with providing false information and documents to ECFMG".

The school jumps islands to avoid accreditation and then it's accused by ECFMG to have been involved in some fraudulent activity in connection with document submission. Good Luck getting trying to get a license after graduating from a place like this. Of course they won't around by then so you have no where to turn. Amazing!

Perfect! "Dr." PL finally understands that karma is a female dog with sharp teeth. Hope it will drive final nail into AUSOM.

Ok. I understand what you are saying. What is the status of other medical schools located in St. Lucia and their students? What are they supposed to do if they graduate after 1/1/2018 ? At least AUSOM students might have to go through additional screening but at least they get a chance for ECFMG.

They wont be able to practice in the US, after that Canada will join, next Europe, then India. Transfer while it's not too late. Spartan is accredited though. AIMU is on its last leg, something Integrated school based in Rodney Bay has been rather dead than alive for some time, another American in Vieux fort is not accredited so far.
AUSOM has bigger problem now since they pissed off ECFMG.

    Cheers,

    JohnI

How does know any body to get rid of this problem? There is a large "mistake" by Minister of Education makes error affecting thousands of future physicians.
