Hi

Can anyone tell me about studying medicine in BANGLADESH?
I have done some research and I have found out that there are 11 Bangladeshi medical colleges are under WHO (9 are government and 2 are private)

Can anyone tell me about

Dhaka Medical College

Bangladesh medical college (Dhanmondi, Dhaka)

Jahirul Islam Medical college (Bajitpur, Kishorgonj)

I am a first year Canadian undergrad student, and I am considering about studying medicine in Bangladesh… you know to save time and money.

your actually not saving time or money
most bangali school offer mbbs degree which is similar to a masters in medical science in the states. mbbs is pretty much useless in the states. some programs do have md degrees im not sure which one though. if u want to go abroad and want to come back and study in the states or canada u should look into crib schools.

Getting into medicine is pretty much competitive here since you have to do your undergraduate first... and I don’t want to do undergraduate if I can go straight into medical college (and the above medical colleges that I have mentioned are well established top medical colleges in Bangladesh which are under WHO thus it is accepted by the medical council of Canada).

and money wise... their entire 5 yrs prog is about $25,000 USD.
so I do save money.

Also, there are many drs from Bangladesh who are practicing here in Canada right now (one of our family friend is a assistant professor at a medical college in US who have done his MBBS from Dhaka medical college so I don’t think the MBBS degree is a useless degree, especially where there are 20% of IMGs who are practicing in US are INDIAN Doctors with MBBS)

And as for the MCC examinations, my family dr. (who graduated in 2003) told me that the passing rate is 95% (it is little easier to pass MCC examination compared to USMLE). He also said that most IMGs pass the MCC exam, but only few who fails MCC have difficulties with understanding English (but of course you would have to be determined in order to pass the MCC examinations).

I posted on this forum to get some information from students who are in Bangladeshi medical colleges right now to get first hand information.

I did not post to get advice on which is better Caribbean or Bangladeshi medical colleges (though I do appreciate your kind thoughtfulness)

I would like some information about studying in Bangladesh as well. Can anyone share their first hand experiences? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you do save a lot of money...i am not a student in medical colleges in bangladesh, but i know for fact tuitions are much much cheaper and living is also quite cheap.

Why in the world would you want to study medicine in Bangladesh? You are in Canada dude. And you are still in your first year of undergrad too! I am in Canada as well but you gotta at least give it your best shot to get that GPA and other reqs to try to get into med school here instead of deciding right away to study medicine in some 3rd world country.

I am agree with Inteser. You can try to admit in Chittagong Medical College. I think this is the best College for you and you can save money.

you are wrong...an MBBS is an MD equivalent in the the US.

but on the point of studying abroad...do everything you can do to stay in Canada to study medicine if practicing in canada is your goal...canada is much more img Unfriendly than the US - yes there are foreign doctors practicing in both canada and the US, but it is becoming more more difficult to get residencies in both countries as an F/IMG...read around this forum to see just how difficult...

and if you have done nothing to ruin your chances to get into a canadian med school, you should try that 1st...if you then do something (crappy gpa crappy mcat) the foreign schools will still be there.

however, the domiciled bangladesh med schools will most likely be not available to you, since they are very competitive for the spots...only the best and brightest in bangladesh are even able to get the chance to get a spot...unless you have some connection only the private schools will be options for you.

and do you speak bengali? while classes may be in english, the rest of your stay will be a bit difficult if you only speak english.

well it used to be very difficult...but u know....now most people know a little english and living for the first few months won't be that difficult...by that time u will be able to pick up a lot of the language...bengali is actually an extremely easy language to learn...but ya...life in foreign country is always a bit difficult in terms of adjusting...cheers!!
