Looking for help and info about China Medical Schools

Honestly I have tons of questions to ask before actually applying to a Med school in China. I have even read multiple things online and sometimes been told conflicting things. One big question I have is it sounds to me that the rules are not as strict in China for instance I hear most things at most schools are negotiable like if you really have to pass HSK, even the tuition. Is this true, and how would you even go about negotiating before reaching the school? Also I really would like to know if a program could be done faster if a person could do it faster? I know there are different length programs from 5-6 years so if I did a 6 year program but could finish it in 5 can I? Or could I even do it faster if I can do so? Also any help understanding how to go about taking USMLE when at a foreign school is appreciated I probably could start a thread just on my questions on the USMLE. Thanks for any help.

Since you have read a lot about doing medicine in China, you might appreciate that sometimes things are not set in concrete of black and white as it may seem. That being said though, you can't shortcahnge your medical education, the time lines are fixed. A 5.5 year program is exactly that, a 5.5 year program as is a 6 year program.
You are limted by constraints way beyond your control, like how the syllabus is designed and hows it's delivered. If you want something more personable and flexible then look at something like the OUM (OCeania University of Medicine) cirriculum.

Now as for sliding through some of the subjects, well that might be a different situation bound around a different set of circumstances, it might depend on the way the wind blows on any given day at any given time, but more likely on your specific wants, needs and the relevants players and the parts they play, after all Guanxi is an all important element in Chinese society, but, it's related to status, real or perceived. You as a student sit fairly low down in the fish tank... in other words you are a small fish in a large large fish tank. Since that is likely the situation it's highly unlikely you will be able to pull any strings to get anything really favourable coming your way. That's not to say it can't happen but it is unlikely. There is simply no room for negotiaton before enrollment, same pretty much as any other legit medical school.

There is not short cuts to a real medical degree.

As for USMLE, this is China, with it's own health care and medical systems. It's not churning medical grads for the US market. Therefore preparing medical students ready to sit USMLE 1 & 2 is not a focus of the Chinese medical education establishment. Me thinks you need to actually read more, and decipher the real information from the **. You might like to also contact the likes of CUCAS who will answer any questions you maybe have about getting a real medical education in mainland China. If you want a medical education that will preapre you to sit USMLE and get USA board certified etc and build the necessary networks to help smooth your way in the American health & medical systems, then my advice is to, learn there.

Thanks for the info. I certainly did not think I could do less work to get away with a degree just do the work faster. Plus with my college education in the states already I thought I would already have the knowledge for some of the earlier courses. Also as you mentioned CUCAS I have been writing to them and they did say that school could be done faster if you could do it but it would be nearly impossible.

With the USMLE I figure I would have to do all the studying on my own. I have already been getting study materials and am planning to study up before even going there (including studying Chinese). I am not sure I even want to try for a residency anyway just might want to be general practice and I am thinking of doing doctors without borders when done think that I will be fine to do. I still want high USMLE scores to to give me options.

Thanks for responding though. I also am curious about life in China in general. I think I will really like it. I grew up in LA love big cities. Also grew up in an upper middle class Asian ghetto so used to Asians and understand the culture well including Guanxi as you mentioned. My bro goes there on work and hates it but him and I are very different he has to stay at nice hotels in suites I can coach surf and just take the floor not a coach. He will only eat Pizza Hit, MCd's when there I am willing to try it all (while watching how they prepare the food make sure its clean). I also been doing business stuff in China for over a decade now so if I can handle dealing with Chinese in business I think I can manage. But would like a general idea what the day in the life is like at a Med schools in China.

bbwfw, it sounds like you need to do more research.

It doesn't matter what kind of medicine is practiced in the US, it requires completion of residency and USMLE exams. You cannot simply choose to be a general practice physician. Doctors without borders (MSF) requires that you complete residency, or have practiced for at least 2 years.

It seems like you are asking all the wrong questions by looking for shortcuts. If you have taken pre-med courses and wish to practice in the states, apply to US schools. If you can't get in, become a physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse anesthetist. All 3 of those occupations do everything a doctor does (see patients, diagnose, treat/prescribe medication, etc.), with much less schooling required.
