"In response to the call for quality medical education, the SWU-MHAMCM is continuously seeking local and international accreditation in medical education. Next year, we may witness the SWU-MHAMCM joining the Asian Medical Education Association (AMEA), and ultimately be listed in the international directory of medical schools under the auspices of the World Health Organization/ World Federation of Medical Education (WHO/WFME)." deans message Seems to be confusing Is SWU WHO listed? .. If any one has information on this please pass it on ... ![]() Last edited by RonRocks; 07-20-2009 at 08:12 PM. |

I really do despair. I have been away from this forum for a while studying and working and I come back on here and read posts like this. If you are unable to search a directory and are unable to post with any sense of grammar or decorum, what hope do you have of being successful in medicine? Do you also hope that whilst you are studying medicine people will give you the answers rather than you researching them for yourself?
Search the WHO directory (now called the AVICENNA directory) and see for yourself. |

Thank you Paramed. That message from Dean is confusing, but it seems to be listed in WHO Directory. here is the decorum link WHO | World directory of medical schools <br>Final updates through December 2007 check it out. My hope being successful in medicine = 100% I believe answers will come in the all forms Just keep oculi open Last edited by RonRocks; 07-25-2009 at 01:14 PM. |

You can find the information in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools in the WHO Website. MHAMCM is listed there. =) My dad also graduated from there.
P.S. Sorry I can not post the link as my post count hasn't reached 20 |

SWU is one of the most respected Universities in the Philippines and I was even warned by the Dean that their attrition rate is high so he suggested some further College courses to prepared me which I duly enrolled on. Despite being a paramedic with a degree (a UK degree not an american degree which is considerably lower academically) I was advised to sit a chemistry course as my undergraduate chemistry might not have prepared me enough. So now I am enroled on an undergraduate chemistry course with lab which I hope will prepare me.
It feels strange sitting an undergraduate course when I already have a degree but I trust the Dean's judgement especially when he has said the attrition rate is so high. I think the high attrition rate might be due to the school being used by students who couldn't get in anywhere else and who had very poor GPA and as such do not have the academic ability or intellect to study medicine. They see it as a cheap option to get an MD and like most of their cohorts with the same mindset, they fail! SWU is approved for California and every other US state and also the UK and that is what I have based my choice on. The tuition fees are very low (although foreigners have to pay much higher fees which is common in most countries) and the country is safe, stable and I have family there (my Uncle married a Filipina). As a white English male, I was concerned about not fitting into some foreign schools but apparently the Philippines is very welcoming of foreigners who bring much needed money into the country. Just respect their customs and don't abuse their women who are usually very strict Catholics. |

well, he applied and got into the undergraduate degree at SWU then after he finished his undergraduate degree at Southwestern University, he used his university GPA and took the university entrance examination to get into the MD Program. However, I think the best way for you is to go to the university website and enquire the university office if you have further questions since I think their requirements might vary from year to year since it was so long already since my dad graduated from SWU.
