Supposing if a Canadian student goes to India to study in Manipal or Dayanad...will it be hard for the person to get into the US with only a MBBS and no Bsc?

I'm not Canadian, but I've heard that visa issues are more pressing come residency time for Canadians wanting residency in the U.S.Originally Posted by eenie
no probs u can sit fr USMLE after MBBS from India without BSc (dont know about Canada).....but b aware ............... the facilties offered are not of the international standard......there are lot of corruptions .........u ll get a very little to nil help from the institution fr ur exams........u ll hav to depend on private tution.....but the most disagreeable thing about India is that u ll have to pay a huge amount of Donation (60 000US$ fr Manipal...i call it money pal, and similar amounts in other indian colleges ) which is illegal but indespensable for ur Admission.,.i have been in Indian Med School.i think there are better places
best of luck

Which will be more recognized? Will it be easier coming from teh Caribbean or from India?
i spent 3 yrs in indian med school, manipal to be exact, though the school shut down many years ago and it is not kasturba med, but rather a short-lived spinoff
still, i can speak with authority about kmc in manipal. first and foremost, the administrators are absolute criminal scum. they lie through their teeth about anything and everything. the town itself is a black hole and a blemish on the planet earth, a place which never should have existed. the facilities are god-awful, and the profs are truly atrocious. the place is unbelievably expensive (tuition alone is $90K last time i checked, which was a while ago and can only be higher now)
that's the minus. the plus side is that if you can afford the tuition plus money for bribes (and i am NOT joking), you will have a ticket for the usmle after nearly six years. personally, i think it would be a foolish pick, from the viewpoint of time, money and simple human dignity.
by the way, in the interest of full disclosure and honesty, i should concede that my attitude and experience is different from many, perhaps most, who go there. i had an unusually bad experience because my father wrote the president of the college a nasty letter calling him a liar and a thief (which he was but there was no real need to do that in the third month of my time there), and also because of dropping out and being forced (or at the very least persuaded until false pretenses) to return by others at home.
anyway, to address the original question, almost any carib school with the exception of the obviously scammy schools like spartan and some of the others, and some of the too new schools like st james.......almost any carib school is a better bet than india and most certainly a better bet than kmc manipal.
Will it be eeasier though...like curriculum wise ...cause India lacks in technology but it makes up for it in the fact that they make you study soo much.....so it seemes to be a trade off...right?
I agree with Raj Patel...
i had many friends with similar experiences...the Bangalore zone is Den of Corruptions in the kingdom of Corruption(india).........even i had some sort of similar experience.............they asked me 6000$ bribe after i passed the 1st Year....so that i can get admitted in the 2nd year...which is a normal trend in Indian Private Medical Colleges .......but paying bribe was against my ideology thus i choose Russia instead.................n i m quite satisfied with my education here..............hey Raj what do u think about the quality of Facility offered in Manipal....do they meet the International Standards? i can say they dont meet the Russian Standards.(manipal is considered to b one of the best medical schools in India)

i don't know that one is "forced" to study more due to lack of technology.....personally i think the usmle is about regurgitation of a certain body of information and i don't think high tech can help or hurt that process, it ultimately comes down to learning the material and i don't see much difference in reading it off a book or computer screen
as for the faculty of kmc manipal, i can't say because as i said, i was at a short lived spinoff school and can't speak to faculty quality at the half century old main school
our teachers sucked bad, most were students themselves, could barely speak english, and i could write pages and pages of how pathetic they were as instructors, don't have the time at the moment, perhaps will come back
you are absoltuely incorrect when you say that "manipal is the best medical school in india" have you ever heard of AIIMS or govt. medical colleges?Originally Posted by drtintin

agreed...manipal really isnt the best medical college, its just a college where a lot of indians from the US go for odd reasons...i would much rather chose caribbean over india anyday because everything there is so corrupt...and also because at least after caribbean you get a MD, after school in india, you get an MBBS!
AIIMS is by far India's best medical school.
