Cost of med school in Phillipines?

    Advertisements

How much does med school cost in the Phillipines? A University I just contacted told me $35,000 for foreigner's fees and tuition together. Everything else extra. Is this too much? What do the other Fillipino med schools charge, especially the ones allowing rotations in the US?

    Internships?

By the way, do you have to do 1 year internship after 4 years of med school in the Phillipines? The school I contacted said I had to.

That is excessive for a Philippine school. Contact other schools like UERM, FEU, UST or DLSU. BTW, US rotations are really expensive as they will charge extra plus in some cases you have to find your own apartment.

There are few schools that require internship (5th year) for graduation (UP and St. Luke's). Local Filipinos are required the 5th year internship as it is required to take their local boards but not foreigners.

Back in 03 at FEU, I paid 10G foreign fee (onetime)+3500 dollars first yr tution. 2nd yr same price, but third yr got bump up to 4G and last year the same. But i did 6month rotations in US that is from my own pockets.
10g+7000+8000=25g total for my medical school education in PI.
US clerkship 3200/3mons, i did six months so 6400. Grand total 31400!

Can you actually work in the Philippines or you have to be a citizen? How hard is it to find rotations in anything other than FM or IM?

U have to be PI citizen to take the local board. Rotations in PI are set up by ur school. US rotations are depend on the school affliations or ur own connection.

CIM and UERM in Cebu do not charge an admission fee to foreigners, and tuition in both schools comes out to less than $3000/year. Gullias in Cebu charges a $3000 admission fee on top of their regular tuition, while Cebu Doc SUPPOSEDLY charges $6000 but i think they wave that in some cases. Ask for the latest info on that. As for living expenses, all depends how large you want to live. Will you share your room with another student and use a common toilet? Then $200/month is all you need for your living, food, etc expenses. Expect $300/month for reasonable lifestyle and $600 for living large (driving, airconditioned apt, eating mostly western food).
