judgemental manipal
i am really going to try and stay within TOS while saying this, something i have a hard time with on this particular forum because of my hatred for manipal.
i think of all the things i hated about manipal: the remoteness (i appreciate this a bit more these days, having aged a decade and having become more reflective, but still it has its major downside), the living conditions, the awful professors (our short-lived three year in existence program had recent med grads teaching), and several other things.....the thing i hated most was the absolutely pervasive, never-ending judgementalism and pseudo-moralism.
if you have a car, you are a shameless show-off. if you have a motorcycle, ditto. scooters aren't much better. if you choose to live outside the hostel in some basic facilities designed more for humans than animals, again more of the above. as a matter of fact, if you own something or just have as an inherent trait anything someone might envy, then rest assured someone in the faculty will take notice and make your life miserable. what is it with all these people in manipal who have no ethics or scruples but yet somehow or other consider themselves the guardian of all that is right and pure.
i will concede that if you're indian and like india, and like the food (which i definitely do) and have relatives in the south, and want to live cheaply (yes, manipal is definitely the place for that, but then you lose out big time with the ridiculous tuition which is much more than ross, auc, saba etc.).....all these are probably plusses even if the school is a rat-infested cesspool of lies, deceit, treachery, and fraud. but still....the NRIs among you should do yourselves a favor and patiently complete whatever prereqs you need and go to a real school. i am telling you.......there will be an extra layer of your life in manipal devoted just to the whole bribery and butt-kissing aspect of the school, and you may just find as some do after a time that there is no legitimate progress to be made in the school and to keep your honor and integrity you will just have to cut your losses and leave with nothing.
