Cebu Institute of Medicine Vs. Cebu Doctor's University

Can anyone give me the pros and cons of these schools? Do either of them allow US. Rotations? Thanks

Though I have many relatives and friends who went/go or teach at both, I dont know enough about them to make some pros and cons. But they are both good schools, both have US rotations, and both have many doctors practicing in the US.

This February, CIM got a 97% (no. 1 nationwide) passing percentage in the medical boards while Cebu Doctors only got 65%. The school is consistently among the Philippines' top 3 best performing schools in terms of board passing rate.

CIM has a better reputation in the Philippines in terms of Phil. Board examination. Cebu Doctors on the other hand will allow you to take more US rotations. Either school will be ok depending on your preference.

i wouldn't rate school excellence with philippine licensure exams. unless it's as good as USMLE to really establish that you know your stuff rather than being a game of having memorized tons of random subspecialty trivia stuff, btw useless knowledge for the general physician, i wouldnt trust it. get your sources from reliable places. but that's just me.

the phil. board exams are only for filipino citizens (same for everybody regardless of region). It's not that useful compared to USMLE and is a requirement if they want to train for specialization in the Philippines. A rotating internship (basically a 5th year) is required to sit in the exam.

I have really appreciated the insight people have given me on these philippine schools. I want to travel from the west coast of US to visit Cebu schools and Fatima. I do not have any connections in these regions and would rather not be taken advantage of unnecessarily. Could anyone tell me is it better to fly to Manila then catch a commuter flight to Cebu or fly direct to Cebu? Anyone have an airline preference? I have not been able to talk to the schools but thought I can pretty much show up and chat with the students, meet with a teacher or even admin., and perhaps be able to sit in a lecture course. If this is incorrect please let me know. I would love to maximize my time and effort to accomplish the goal in choosing what school I am best suited for. I was looking to travel anytime between April and June. Is this a good or bad time, school wise, weather wise etc. Thanks in advance for your help! geo

As an addendum I want to open a Philippine bank account. Is this possible or advisable for a US citizen? Again, thanks for your help.

For banking, I don't think you will have a problem opening an account. But if you're still not sure, there are US banks like Citibank, Bank of America, or JP Morgan Chase branches in Metro Manila and Cebu.
