Welcome to the 1st annual upperclassman football game and extravaganza. Please note time and location: Night before next Anatomy exam, hallways of AUC residence, about 2am?? Sounds good. Please watch for special appearances by none other than the "lone boy who hoops and hollers (alone) in the parking lot. He's hammered, he's stumbling, and yes, he talks to himself, and the unlucky passerby who he doesn't know anyway. But don't ask him who he is, because he doesn't remember himself either!
Also, don't miss the alltime favorites, high school wannabe med students who party like it's 1999 (though presumably they were yet in the womb)....they also hoop and holler and make arses of themselves, but never fear.... they need not party in a room or elsewhere, they would rather stand in the halls and criticize others....or take to the parking lot perhaps? But little do they know, they were merely warming the floor for the full contact, full volume upperclassman event! Thanks guys and dalled up gals. Better not go to the club so early next time....you missed a friend...he yelled for you all night.
Get the point yet, or should I continue? Respect eachother's space, especially the common ones. We're not all on the same schedule, and we don't work well whilst you play so near. Chill out.

Man,
I remember the good old days when RA's were yelling at people for being too loud. Get over it man. Life is too short to be mad about silly things like that. I guess I just got used to dealing with noise while I lived in a frat house in college and after my first semester, it never really bothered me. So, either get over it, or move.

If your class is working so hard, it shouldn't be that much effort to have a little respect and consideration for upper semesters. Should it?
You'll be asking for the same when you become an upper semester...
As for the high average, I wonder how high it would be if the lab practical wasn't multiple choice.

what a joke..... multiple choice lab practicals......... kinda throws credibility away from the high 70s average.
i guess i should ask....... WHY ISNT THE AVERAGE IN THE 80s or 90s with how much of a joke that class has turned into? dont get a big ego........ your class is no different from previous 1st semester classes that went through AUC.
complete lack of respect........ the island has plenty of nightlife........ if you want to get piss drunk and let loose like an immature college fratboy, then there are plenty of OTHER places to do it. go to sunset and "let loose" to the point that you wake up on the beach. i guess some have not grown up to get beyond "the world revolves around me" phase.

being a first semester myself, i do agree with the OP about the noises that some of my fellow classmates might have made after letting loose after our rounds of exams. however, our class is small this semester, and a lot of us do live off campus, leaving a good amount of upper semester students living in the dorm. they too do take place in the noise-making process. believe me, not only first semester students party and get drunk or else there wouldn't be any repeaters in classes. imo, if anyone has any problem with a particular person's actions, he/she should confront and/or report that person and has it resolved, rather than making a VMD post generalizing the whole class. just because we are the newbies on campus doesn't mean that anything that goes wrong with an upperclassman's grades/studying habits can be blamed on all of us.

So when did playing catch in the parking lot at 3pm become this evil thing to do? I can understand the noise at night, not nice, but a few guys playing catch with a football is not the end of the world. If you think that is bad, what are you going to do in your ER rotation when the ambulance phone rings non stop and you can hardly hear your patient telling you whats wrong? I know there is a policy on noise that calls for quiet time all day, but give me a break... catch... whatever.

Eh? I don't remember anyone saying something bad about football. The OP was making a joke that they'd play a loud game the night before an anatomy test.
Though people did point out it's not just the first semesters who feel the excessive need to cut loose. There are jerks in every semester that probably deserved to be evicted and sent to live on the far corner of the island.

under that theory maybe exams should be given under extreme stress---screaming, phone, people talking, yelling----that would prepare you for the ER too

that's too funny. I am not a first semester, nor do we live on campus, but I have had student(s) who live around me complain about kid noise nonetheless and that was nearly verbatum my first thought.
Uhm, how many lecture halls, libraries, reading rooms, etc are available to study in? This is the problem - we do not live in a library. Can someone claim the 'castle exception' (meaning one's home is the last place of retreat) on a little fun once in a while? My kids are pretty well behaved, but we live here. I'd probably get grumpy if people were yelling and screaming at 2 in the morning, but that has to be expected once in a blue moon, doesn't it?
I also find it absolutely hilarious how quickly discussions turn into peeing contests about "who is in the best class" or "who had it the hardest". Everyone wants to be the genius martyr, right?

i think some of us are missing something. i dont think the big issue here is the "noise" made during the day. the original poster implied that the noise is done at night time.... i lived in the dorms for all 5 semesters and i was an RA for the last two. the biggest problem i dealt with, besides the occasional fire alarm, was the noise at night. for example, the first semesters have a big exam and the night after the exam they hoot and holler like drunken high students, walking around with alcohol bottles and yelling in the parking lot. in the mean time, the other upper-semesters are trying to study or sleep for their exams that were maybe a day or so later. noone ever said to not celebrate the end of their exam but go off campus to a bar etc etc.

Does anyone remember a few semesters back when Dr. M (histo) fainted DURING an exam and Dr. G made us keep going? It was INSANE with a bunch of 5th semesters and a couple of the clinical doc running in and out of the exam. My personal favorite tho was the Path II final last semester. There was a loud bang, then all the sudden, a waterfall poured out of the ceiling onto students and broke through a bunch of the tiles from the drop ceiling. Now, if you want something to complain about for an exam, come see me. Otherwise, sit down shut up and put some ear plugs in!
