Portsmouth hospital operating with limited staff
The Portsmouth Hospital has been operating with only eight nurses over the past few weeks.
This is according to a source close to the institution.
The source said some of the institution’s nurses have migrated while one is on vacation leave and another is on study leave. Three nurses, including the hospital’s only Family Nurse Practitioner, were sent on pre-retirement leave. Also, the hospital is operating with only one doctor.
The hospital source said the authorities are aware of the situation and the nurses were asked to work as a “unit” at a recent meeting.
Two patients at the hospital said more nurses are desperately needed at the hospital.
“We need more nurses and another doctor here at the Portsmouth hospital because people are suffering with all kings of pain and the situation is too critical ... Government must fix it up,” one of the patients said.
Health Minister, Herbert Sabaroche said he would only comment on the matter after visiting the hospital.
