would a satellite phone be a viable option for calling home? like the globalstar phone with a 150 min plan for $65/month is it worth it??

I bouht a cell phone here on the island the day I arrived. Signal is great. Sometimes there may be a very very slight delay but thats to be expected with international calls for the most part anyway. They have phones from 50 USD on up to 200 something if you want to purchase the new motorola. You purchase cards for your phone since it is a prepaid service if you get a Chippie phone. Chippie is the service that I went through. The cards are a minimum of 5 or 10 dollars i think. I have only bought about 20 dollars worth and still have minutes that will last me. All incoming calls are free. My family just uses a cheap rate with their phone company for about 20 cents a minute plus a month fee. Check into that. Otherwise I think to call the states from your cell phone here it will be about 40 cents/minute. I think the rates to Canada may be slightly more expensive. I am sure someone from Canada will post on here and update my own post. I thought about the satellite phones but figured that would be much more of a problem. Some people have brought phones with them and some have had trouble with that. I just recommend buying a cheap phone when you get here for 50-100 USD and use the pre paid cards.
