Mammillary bodies are usually affected in alchoholics. This tends to lead to Wernicke Korsakoff's encephalopathy with confabulations and anterograde amnesia.

Hemorrhagic necrosis of mamilarry bodies occurs in chronic alcoholics who develop Wernickie's encephalopathy
