Is there any specialty that cabrini is known for?

Just to let you know that there is a waiting list to get rotations at this site. Only those with the highest step 1 scores can get in.

Yeah that's what I would have thought.....do only SMU students rotate at cabrini or are there others as well?
it seems that with this site, smu is hte only foreign school to have rotations in manhatten proper.....is this correct?

I believe other schools are operating in Manhattan, such as North General Hospital in Harlem is a site for another Carib school.

oh got ya . . . . thanks for the info . . . .even if cabrini isnt the only site with foreign grads in manhatten i think it can be agreed that to do rotations there would still be freaking awesome!

Why is Cabrini preferred over the other NY hospitals?

not necessarily preferred.....it jsut happens to be in a location more convenient for some since its on the L line. . . .wyckoff is another hospital in ny which i think is actually bigger with more students its jsut not on my train line

Wyckoff has hundreds of CXarib Medical students all at once in all Cores and numerous electives. It is BIG and on the "L" line. There is a small parking lot for $100 per month. The area isn't great but its better then places like Brownesville. Alot of ROSS students like my son.

It's very strange to me that every time i'm on a rotation, i'm the only SMU student there. While at Cabrini, I did overlap for a month with a student who was already there. I really enjoyed being at Cabrini because I seriously scrubbed in every single day, and not just in general surgery cases, but ortho and gyn. You can pretty much see as much as you want. Also wound care clinic and breast clinic were good once I found out about them. My only problem was that some of the residents were really shady and that there was no real teachinig rounds or lectures for students. I attended the regular resident surgery lectures and they tried to get me involved by giving me a topic to present. They previewed my power point, but every week until my time there was up, they kept postponing it as if they never intended for me actually present. Also as far as Carribean students, there were none. The only other two students were from Germany for a month. So I was basically the only student on surgery for my last month.

Hey guys. I am starting IM at Cabrini in December. Possibly surgery after that (I haven't found out yet). I am super psyched about it. If anyone else is placed there for the following months, let me know. Maybe we can hook up or get a PM going.

Closing Six Hospitals To Be Sought in the City - November 22, 2006 - The New York Sun (http://www.nysun.com/article/43990)
I think Cabrini is one that SMU has clinicals with in NY:confused:

St. John's Episcopal, Long Island College Hospital, and a few others were on the list also. I doubt they will close some of these hospitals, the outcry would be too great. Most likely they will sell them off to private hospitals or keep them open. But who knows?

The official report from the Commission on Healthcare facilities in NYS has recommended that Cabrini be shut down:

If the hospital were to be closed it would happen some time in 2008. By then things will have certainly have changed (hopefully more spots in NYC) if things continue at the rate they are going.
