I will be living in the Hillside dormitory and have just recently bought a laptop. Do I need to bring a printer with me? Is it really necessary to have one.

At some point you will probably want a printer - you can have things printed in the library at $0.05 per page, but that adds up pretty quickly when there are 60 pages of notes.

However, getting ink carts on the island can be difficult. I order them from Staples and have them shipped via ICS.

I think printer is an absolute necessity if you don't like to study power points from a laptop and prefer reading them from a hardcopy. All lectures are in power-point format so it might be easier to study by printing them out. On the other hand, I've seen people did very well without doing so...It really depends on your study habit and what you are comfortable with..

Printers are neat. You will be getting review notes from your classmates that you may want to print out. They're also handy to print out your InfoMed assignments. Of course, you can use them to print out the ppt's in 6 slides/page.

However, if you're like me and a good learner from laptops, you'll barely need them other than to print out your eTickets home and your InfoMed assignments, which can be easily and economically done at the library.

I believe the prints are 10cents/page at the library (I could be wrong and they could be at 25cents/page...)

5 cents a page, you buy a copy card of 50 copies/pages for $10.

Haha!
Do your math! 50 copies for ten bucks is NOT 5 cents a page! It's 20!
*sounds a little condescending* ok, embarrassing errors happen to all of us ;)

By George, you're right! You really got me. I even went and checked my copy card to confirm the numbers and cost.

Makes printers an even better deal - I just ordered a laser printer from Staples that does automatic double-sided printing (with the cost of paper here, that will help further).

Now, report to the gazebo at noon on orientation day for your ***-whooping.:)
