Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can tell me how this class is taught like do we get packets to study from or if the assigned textbook is the primary method of learning. I am just curious because the assigned text is the High Yield Biostats book which is a review book and assumes that you know the basics. So I am wondering how useful this book will be and whether I should get it. Let me know. Thanks.

Personal opinion - go with just the notes. I missed every single biostats lecture and never bought the book (certainly not a pattern to emulate) but still managed to do very well in the class. Strait from the notes. If you've got any kind of math background this course shouldn't give you any trouble at all. Well, except for problems staying awake during epi lectures...

I think the tests are from the notes and I found attending class helpful. That book in my opinion is not worth a cent. They'll also give practice problems so if you can do those you'll do well. I think that the thing to keep in mind about stats is that the questions test theory and not mathemical reasoning. I was annoyed at that because I'm more mathematically oriented and I knew how to solve problems but not so much the whole theory behind them.
