LOL. Ranked by the agent in charge of ripping off students?
Empathy,
Might I suggest that you make use of the search function?
I've found three threads in no time at all (keyword: Oradea). One even was started at the beginning of this month.
Here they are:

when i first started researching CE schools, Oradea was the first one that 'popped up'. i went to the website, and what i read, was 'TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE'.
i'd be carefull. Milkos warned me that that was an AGENT site. and of course, look how much they charge as a simple 'go between' the schools.
i was told to be careful of Romanian schools - and i am. i decided to ELIMINATE Romania ALLTOGETHER in my plans.
the county is a little behind (no offense to anyone), but the country has not rebounded as well as 'others' have, (like Poland and Czech). I'm not TOO sure about Hungary.
My perception of Romania may be wrong, and if it is, I'd love for someone to correct me.
I'd just keep an eye out for Agents - they only see ONE color - GREEN.

The reason not to come to Hungary is not economic. By economic indicators, such as GDP at PPP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29_per_capita), Hungary (as a whole) is ahead of Poland and behind the Czech Republic.
The reason not to attend a Hungarian English language program is that is really not designed for North Americans. Then again, to varying degrees, neither are Polish or Czech programs.

...i guess, overall, there really AREN'T many international med schools that cater 100% to U.S. Students...
...that goes back to an earlier thread i post today, which had two links, here is an excerpt from ONE of those links,
Important Personal Qualities
To successfully contend with all the extra demands placed on students and graduates of international medical schools, candidates who take this path must be extraordinarily determined, motivated and resilient. To handle the basic science curriculum and pass all of the steps of the USMLE, they must be capable students and competent test-takers. They should have the adaptability and independence needed to thrive in another country, ideally already developed through a significant study or service abroad experience. If a substantial part of the curriculum is taught in a language other than English, they should gain at least a basic proficiency in the language before attending the medical school. They should take initiative, especially when planning their clinical rotations, and be flexible, especially when applying for residency programs. And, they should be prepared to graciously explain their decision to attend an international medical school.

Debrecen and the other provincial cities in all likelyhood.
Budapest is more expensive than either Prague or Warsaw according to the latest survey. (http://www.pestiside.hu/archives/its_official_budapest_is_ripoff_central001014.php)

Miklos,
Trust me, Warsaw is a lot more expensive than Budapest, its just crap...not like it has anything more to offer..just alot more expensive..
I didnt check the survey, but last time I was in Budapest (during the summer) it was still cheap, maybe rents and such things have gone sky high...but I doubt its higher than in Warsaw. For example..something I remeber from my last visist in Budpest....a pizza at don pepe cost like 5 euros while a pizza in Warsaw cost like 6.5-7 euros.
The only thing thats cheaper here is going to the cinema if ur a student...

Pizza may well be cheaper in Bp., but rents and utilities are insane, especially if you are calculating in US dollar terms. What are rents and utilities like in Warsaw?

lol - i know
it's just that i can 'picture' the 'unprepared' pre-med student venturing off into a foreign med school, and wanting to be a physician - i mean, it all sounds sweet and dandy - but when push comes to shove, you still have the rigors of the USMLE to pass...
...i've seen some practice questions allready, and they are NO JOKE!
i have a friend interested in med school abroad...but in ALL HONESTY - i don't think she is cut out to 'make the grade'...
...i don't want to upset her, but what's the best way to tell her this? i mean, it's not that i am in any position to tell her (i'm just a recent graduate with a degree in biology).
i'm afraid she will get accepted, and then fail out.
i should tell her, but so far i've been nothing but supportive (i feel like an ***)
maybe i am underestimating her - but i don't think so, we've taken classes together for YEARS, and she lacks a lot of motivation and desire.

Hey Miklos,
ok so, based on their avreage income this place has insane rents, my place, which is fairly old, but at good location close to centrum, about 40m2, costs 365 euros a month, its a fixed rent or else it would be even higher now. But ofcourse. If the rent and such things are even remotely close to this in Budapest then I can understand how bitter it has to be for the avreage hungarian livining there...

As a foreigner, one is likely to pay more for a place than the local, especially if it is furnished. As something like 90% of the apartments are owner occupied, the market for quality flats that are being rented is very small. In addition, there is a property speculation boom (mostly Irish punters investing into Bp., thinking that the only way is up), which also drives the prices up. Generally, the rule here is that if you are paying in Euro, you are paying too much.

An agent site is where an agent of the university puts up a website to get students to attend through his/her agency. IMO, most agents in the region are cons. They very often promise the moon and the stars and deliver nothing or nothing that you couldn't have done yourself for far less money. See the sticky on top of this page marked with ******** for an example.

Why are you bouncing around from forum to forum to speak about CLuj napoca? It reminds me of the movie Hostel --- are you trying to lure Americans into this city to be used in your "art shows"?

Xypathos...I speak from a personal experience ..however, to each his own...go to oradea then....The pages u see in the internet about oradea are only ads issued by the agent i think in south africa !! but if u want the truth.. i was there and i lived in cluj for about a year and saw many students transfering from oradea and coming to cluj. CLuj is a small town. Less expensive and has alot to offer..it is more to the west toward hungary. there is also constanta which is a city on the black sea ..it has a medical school but i dont think they have an english program. Again, in this forum i am not trying to lure anyone to anywhere. but i think everyone should share his experience with others so others might benefit. if you like it take it, if u dont leave it. its as simple as that.
Why would you advertise a school with no english program? Very few, if any of the posters here know enough Romanian to study medicine in it. Yes, Romanian is a roman language and similar to Latin, which I've studied since middle school ... but I wouldn't attempt to study medicine in a Romanian language school.
Night_Star
08-31-2006, 06:46 AM
Again , I am not advertising. u seem to get it wrong. the reason why i mentioned the school is because maybe someone would want to study in the local language. there are many international students study medicine in the romanian language. and some like to be near the sea !..so there they have it! :) ofcourse, they have to study a one year language course before they start their studies .

Beware of the website,...oradea.com it is run by a guy who by virtue of lies and deception, cheat an incredible sum of 2000-3000 euros form students just for the purpose of application processing, almost the cost of one year school fees.and he is so heartless and cruel that he doesnot bother to do all he is supposed to or promised to when you finally arrive oradea.
he's got no conscience,i came thru him,so i know better.
Please take heed,to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Hi there everyone!
In contrast to the generally low opinion weathered here on the Oradea University, it seconds only to the Constanta University according to Webometrics ranking. Below is a list of the top few Romanian Universities that I believe have an English Med. Program:
(National rank, world rank, name)
14 4484 UNIVERSITY OVIDIUS OF CONSTANTZA
16 4855 UNIVERSITY OF ORADEA
17 5096 UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY VICTOR BABES TIMISOARA
18 5240 UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY IULIU HATIEGANU CLUJ NAPOCA
25 5773 UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY GR.T. POPA
36 6706 CAROL DAVILA UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY
