Hello,

I know this was discussed before - but wanted to know specifically - what is the situation like for getting prescriptions on Saba? Does anyone have a contact email/phone/name for whoevers in charge of the pharmacy? Can they order prescriptions that they don't stock? What are costs like - better than US? Does the health insurance you can get through school cover prescriptions? How much does that health insurance cost and is it even necessary? I hurt my back in July when I was visiting and it was like 35 bucks to be seen by the dr. and get prescriptions.

Thanks
Andrea

the hospital has a relatively small pharmacy, and occasionally runs out of drugs, with delays in getting more.

There are pharmacies in Sint Maarten that can get you whatever you need. Pricing is variable, depending on what you need.

If you are taking Rx drugs now, bring a 4-month supply with you, or make arrangements to have them fedexed to you. Costco is pretty good about this, btw.

I have my parents fed-ex any medications i need for the fungal infection or traumatic injury of the month that i sustain. I swear I've never really taken any medications until I came down here. Now the nurses in the ER know me pretty welland get the steroids and painkillers ready when I walk in the door. Anyways, I can't find anything obviously illegal about shipping medications internationally. The only thing I could find that was restricted was: aerosol sprays, airbags, ammunition, butane, car batteries, cologne, dry ice, fireworks, gasoline, jet fuel, lighters, matches, nail polish, nail polish remover, nitrogen refrigerated liquid, paint, perfume and more.... Now that my regular shipment of jet fuel, airbags, and nail polish remover is being cut back, my weekends will be a little more boring, but with fewer ER visits.
