I have read the handbook's breakdown and estimate for yearly and semester expenses for attending school at SABA, but what has been your experience? I have been told that car insurance is additional $200 a year plus gas, etc..., but are there any other extra expenses not outlined that will be likely for the average student.

I will more than likely choose the Medachiever loan. Although, it has a higher startup interest rate, it's longterm playment plan seems to makeup for it. Plus, they have higher loan amounts! How large should the first loan be, for a student that will have minimal to zero supplemental income :?:

Call the Gardner office. They can give you the exact loan amounts which vary from semester to semester. The amount also increases if you are bringing your spouse, children, etc.

I chose the Medachiever simply because it offered the most money. Call Gardner and they can tell you exactly how much money you can borrow for each semester (to the penny).

I'm not sure which extra costs are currently listed in the handbook, but the biggest ones will be for your deposit once you rent a house or apartment and a US$500 "non-resident" deposit if you choose to get a regular telephone. Those are the biggest chunks (aside from purchasing a vehicle) that I can currently remember.

Best of Luck!

I understand from reading ******** e-book that SABA offers staffords if you do the joint master programs through the fielding institute. Does anyone know what this means?

Does anyone have any experience trying to get a deferment/extension on their undergraduate stafford or direct loan with plans of attending SABA? I know that SABA students are not eligible for united states government loans, but how does that affect their payment options on their undergraduate loans?

I called and tried to get my federal student loans deferred but was told that Saba was not on the list of "approved schools". So, I wasn't able to get them deferred. Anyone know anything different?

I put a little work on the phone regarding this. My government loans that used a lender (Sallie Mae in my case) will be deferred while I am a fulltime student at SABA. But, because it is not a stateside school, it will not be automatically defered; extra paper work must be filled and notarized by SABA before deferment will be approved.

In regards to the "Direct Loans"... that is a little more problematic. Like you said, they will not defer payment while attending SABA, but their are other options. If you loans are "Direct," give them a call and ask about hardship deferment and other special circumstances.
