I must say it's a kick in the chest. There's a lot of material to handle in a small amount of time. Campus, island, people & student body are wonderful & friendly. The same can be said about the professors. All the professors have outstanding credentials and lecture well.

Best wishes and good luck

Hope midterms don't kill me.

Cool...nice pictures. And is that you with the "Yankees Suck" shirt? Cause I'm an A's fan, and I hate the Yankees with a passion!

EDIT: Are you talking about Union City, CA in that one picture?

IM a born and bred NYawker and the Yankees are great, but we don't need to kick up too much of a fuss about it- we just let the yanks beat you

THanks for your posts- other posts regarding impressions of sgu for the newbies might be great. Good or bad (just keep it clean, kids).

356 huh? Ok.
Also a bit of advice: study your notes, dont read the texts unless you need to clear something up; with the exception of anatomy where you have a "course companion" you work on like a workbook, the classes all provide the notes for you (unless things have changed). COndence info with your own notes and Review with course related review books from the library and what you've essentially done is not only learned the topic but already made your first pass at board reivew, making that allt he easier come USMLE time.

THanks!
Steph

Yeah i am the yankee hater. I'm from NJ & a die hard mets fan altho there's not much to cheer about lately. There's always a chance that the yanks will get eliminated in the ALDS.

well its ok if your a mets fan. but I gotta tell you, that who "who let the dogs out" (or whatever it was) crud a few years ago when they were series bound struck me as so low class.

Did you know the Yankees ball cap is the hottest item in ireland? I got a great old fashioned one in (London)Derry a few months ago.

I am not now, nor have I ever been a "dude". I honestly dont understand the antipathy against the yankees; its like those who hate Manchester United. Just too darned good for some I guess.

anyway if the yanks dont make it this year, its only a short matter of time until they do it as always

Manchester United are not good, they are just arrogant.
On the other hand Real Madrid are good; on second thoughts they are not good...they are AWESOME!!! SUPERB!!! FANTASTIC!!! and last but not least ELEGANT!!!

I have just finished training my junior resident to stop saying "sweet" and "dude". (It really sounds terrible coming from the mouth of a physician). But since you are a surfer, well, one can't go against nature.

Everyone thinks Im a guy here but that's ok.

TJ: you can help me out here: my dad thinks that soccer is not a real sport and some commie infiltration thing too. Now he's from the 50's so I can forgive that. but explain to me please how people can't like soccer if they like sports in general. Imnot a big sports fan at all but soccer is amazing (the fans scare the living crap out of me, but that is another story-my Irish husband sat petrified when we went to an oriole vs. NY game and I wore my yankees hat- he thought the crowd would kill like in european soccer. He was amazed all all the happy mixing).

Anyway I dislike David Beckham insofar as I have to suffer his stupid (albeit beautiful) face as a media/celebrity thing everytime im in europe (gld bless america for not giving a damn as much as he may try) but man can he play soccer. I also love that the english will never get over his going to Real Madrid. I mean what sort of blondie englishman wears cornrows and skirts half the time, and rap gear the rest, gets married on a throne (id love to see his toilet) and names his kid Brooklyn because it was conceived there? and why the hell was this englishman in brooklyn? There is no good reason to be in brooklyn unless you a re from there or on rotation. Its only right that such media begging is rewarded with folks in the stands singing naugty chants about his wife (posh spice).

but explain to me please how people can't like soccer if they like sports in general.

The biggest reason I can think of off the top of my head is that soccer has no cheerleaders. A sport's validity is directly proportional to the number of topheavy blondes bedecked in short skirts who prance along the sidelines. There is simply no way around this concrete logic - soccer's lack of cheerleaders mean it isn't a real sport.

Also, in the US at least, kids who are good at soccer will eventually move on to more challenging sports as they mature, leaving the scrubs behind to play kickball with eachother. That's why it will never catch on in the States; all the viewers know that the best and most talented athletes are playing other sports. Just look at how many kids in elementary school you see playing soccer and compare it to the number who play in high school, there's a drastic drop.

Soccer only requires the most basic of talents - the ability to kick - which is why you see hordes of minivan moms hauling their toddlers around to practices. These toddlers can play soccer because they've learned how to kick at such a young age. Real sports like football and basketball require much more practice and skill to compete.

55% of the games end in a tie, making soccer the second most lame game in the world, behind cricket.... don't get me started on cricket... how can you play for seven days and have no winner?

The evil commies have conspired to include soccer in the olympics, at the expense of real sports, like football and rodeo.

The only football position that soccer players can play is the kicker. They have funny sounding names, too. And anyone can tell you that the kicker is the biggest loser on the football team. The 350 lb offensive lineman gets more groupies than the kicker does.

Finally, how can you respect a sport whose sole claim to fame is when a woman pulled off her shirt and ran down the field in a bra?

Tongue firmly in cheek ;) ,

No, I am not a David Beckham fan; in fact I do not even think he can play soccer, although he can take free kicks very well and is an excellent ball crosser.
I like Zinedine Zidane who is probably the best player in the world at the present time. And with a lineup including Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo and Raul Gonzales (I just named the top 5 footballers in the world) Real Madrid are the team to watch.
I am sure Steph's Irish husband would agree.

I have just finished training my junior resident to stop saying "sweet" and "dude". (It really sounds terrible coming from the mouth of a physician).

I think when I greet my patients I'll say the following:

I'm the Dude. So, that's what you call me. You know, that, or his dudeness, or duder, or el duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Straight from the mouth of a would-be physician,

WOW...no good reason to be in brooklyn unless you're from there or are doing rotation there? what a statement....I know a few fellas from East New York who would take alot of offense to that. But seeing that I attempt to be more civilized than them I'll just let you know that Brooklyn is not the bad place that people make it out to be. Nuff said! Remind me not to refer my patients to rad oncologists from baltimore :)

Regarding soccer or as people outside the US correctly call it - football! It's the best and most popular sport in the world (outside the US). I am a huge fan and was also on the SGU team :) - I miss those games.
I dont agree that Zidane is the best player in the world right now! To be honest, I dont see anyone really playing consistently well enough to give that honor to (except maybe for Ronaldo). My team would look a little different to dad's with players like Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Pavel Nedved, Ronaldo, Roy Makaay, Darko Kovacevic, Del Piero and Vieri and possibly **** Scoles :)

Finally, I really wonder what steph means by "I have just finished training my junior resident to stop saying "sweet" and "dude".." I see no problem with this unless he's actively using these terms when interacting with his patients. You're luckly I'm not your junior resident cuz I'd tell you where to stick your advice. Your job is not to train people how to speak but simply guide them through their intern and resident years. While I do recognize that physicians need to present themselves in a respectable fashion and seniors can observe interactions of their juniors with patients and make suggestions - it's really up to the individual to make change.
Rad Oncologist only interact with patients during the simulation process anyways and the technologists usually perform the 5-min RT sessions after that.

Maybe it's best you do stay out of brooklyn steph.

Thats's my two cents

I have no problem staying out of BRooklyn. I thoroughly dislike the place.

"Finally, I really wonder what steph means ...etc etc ..... You're luckly I'm not your junior resident cuz I'd tell you where to stick your advice. Your job is not to train people how to speak etc etc..... "

Lighten up, dude.

"Rad Oncologist only interact with patients during the simulation process anyways and the technologists usually perform the 5-min RT sessions after that. "

See you could have had a relatively good post before this bit, all full of moral outrage (dudes from Bkyn and everywhere would thank you): but now you've lost credibility: lawyers in the court room are trained to never ask a question of a witness unless they are confident of the answer lest they be taken by surprise and look unprepared or ignorant to the jury. Same here: bad technique. Dont try to insult a profession to the specialist if you know so little about how it actually works. But thanks for playing.

ok, here's a typical daily schedule for me. In the morning you have lab twice a week (anatomy for 4 hours 8am-12pm or histology for 2 hours 8-10am). 4 hours of lecture 1-5pm. and then DES review groups for an hour, if you go to those. I do kickboxing and step aerobics 3 times a week in the evening 5-6pm. The rest of the time you sre studying, eating, or sleeping. Hope this helps.
