Does anyone know what it will cost to bring my dogs (20 lbs) from US to Saba? And what documents I would need for that? Also , how many vets are there on Saba? And are grooming and boarding services available on SABA?

Hi,
I will be taking my baby with me as well. I believe the airlines charge $50 each way. He will be on board with me, I'm not planning on checking him into the dark, lonely cargo area. He weights only 9.5 lbs.
From what I understand, it is not difficult to go through customs once you arrive on the island. Saba does not have a quarantine period and you don't need to put a microchip in your dog. Just make sure your dog has all of the proper vaccinations (rabies, distemper, heartworm, etc) indicated his/her health certificate from your local veterinarian. However, bring extra copies of all the required paperwork, just to assure you have enough if you're stopping in Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, the customs there may ask to keep a copy and you don't want to arrive on Saba without one and have a problem.
As for a vet on the island, I have been told there are no vets on Saba. Once a month, a veterinarian comes from St.Maarten and does "house calls." Maybe things have changed. I don't know of any boarding services on the island.

My dog is a large dog.....so there's no way I could take her on as a carry on....what am I going to do? I am terrified to check her into the cargo hold, for fear of losing her!!! Airlines lose baggage so often...
If I have to do it, I will have her sedated mildly so that it hopefully it won't be terrifying for her and she won't remember it. Any suggestions? I absolutely cannot leave her behind.... :\

I think the airline is the most reliable source to answer this questions, and please do not sedate your dog unless you are told to do so.
