I'm thinking of getting a car and living in a nicer apartment. Is it worth the thought and trouble?

Thank you

what's the point of being rich if you can't buy what you want ? if you go the douh, makek it sho. but i expect you be too busy studying to be taking any joy rides. i think the only time students here use a car is if their 5min late for class and don't wanto walk.

my apartment is about a 10-15 minutes walk from school and my rent is roughly half of what they charge next to school. The price you pay to be close is outrageous.

After the first semester i knew i had to get a car.

Here are a few reasons why it more than pays for itself:

not getting soaked when walking to school. It rains from june to september, almost everyday!!!

When its not raining you will bake during your walk to and from school, unless you live accross the street in which case you are paying NYC style rents.

One of the biggest reasons is that you have the freedom to leave your apartment at night, if you choose to do so. Trust me there will be many times when you have to go to school at night or several times a day.

And the most important reason is that if you do the leg work and get a decent car you will be able to sell it when you leave and make some, if not all, of your money back.

And last is the FREEDOM that having your own transportation gives you. You are on your own schedule and not the transports, that to me is priceless.

Many people are afraid to get a car. Dont know why but they are. i guess its a personality thing. Some of us are more adventurous than others.

I say get the car, the nicer apartment( withing reason) the good study chair, good lights in your place. In other words treat yourself well. Ross will kick your *** the whole time you are here so make life as easy as you can for yourself.

Good luck.

When you get the housing tour - do they tell you about apartments that are 10-15 min from school? Or do you have to network?

What's the car pricing, and condition?

Thank you

I live about 5 min to 4 min. from school.
In the main road. All the way is flat, no uphill nor downhill.
And I pay 500 only. It is actually the same distance from PBH.
And since we are 2, is 250,250. you can't get any better. But if you are living alone it will be 500.

having a car can be very troublesome. first, you want to find a good car dealer (don't know if they have any on the island), or you need to find someone who is selling the car with honesty. second, when the car breaks down, you need to find a good mechanic, who won't rip you off, or ask you to repair something that doesn't need to repaired. Then you have to take some extra time out of your busy schedule, etc. And also, when the car stops working at the time when you need to use it, you might have to spend the whole day trying to find a place that can fix it.

and at last, with bush's on-going war, gas price is going up and up. some gas stations are charging over $2.00 just for one gallon. i don't know what the price is like on that island.

If I'm going to buy a car I at least want to do it in style, therefore, can you direct me to the near BMW or Mercedes dealership on the island?
Thanks very much.

Yeah right. There is not a BMW dealer here..
Cars here are very expensive. a 20,000 car in the states, here will be 35,000 and maybe more.. you are lucky if you get a 93 Mit. Mirage ok.
or scooter for 4,000 dollars new. NO body in school has a BMW.
