I just bought this new genetics text. Is it really small in size, 4" by 6" with 457 pp? In addition to its peculiar size the text in it is microscopic.
Anyone else had a chance to see it?

Also anyone asking about what laptop to buy, I just purchased a compaq presario with the new centrino intel processor. This thing kicks some buttie! It uses energy efficiently and because of it the battery lasts for hours! Before this I returned a compaq presario 2500 series with P4 2.66 GHz processor. It was a piece of !!/*#! The battery would last for about 1 and a half hours, if that!! So if you are about to buy a new laptop go with CENTRINO! Do not get the P4 processor.
Sorry just happy as hell to have purchased this machine

i have seen my share of genetics books, and this one looks superb, great choice for our list, you can use it for biochem as well, it is excellent in my opinion.

Maybe that's why the microscope is so important??

yeah im pretty impressed with my toshiba with centrino too. i had been leaning toward a p4, but id been advised that that would have been a waste of money. with my laptop now, the battery lasts just under 6 hours. i swear, its enough to make you sit with your laptop in tow and giggle like the pillsbury doughboy.

Wow how are you able to get 6 hours of power?
My centrino gives me a little over 3 and I thought that was good.
How do you have your computer set up or how are you able to conserve the power so long?

there are several different power save options....mine are under "toshiba console"....try right clicking the icon of the battery in the lower right corner of your monitor sometime. i have mine set to "super long life". :)

;)

Just wanted to add my $0.02.

Centrino isnt a different processor from the mobile intel p4. Centrino is more of a platform standard in laptops. To be worthy of being a Centrino, essentially the laptop has to have a certain set of XYZ "intel" brand components. This is what makes the design so efficient etc.
Yah, so don't knock the P4 with a Centrino because its like incorrect =)

As for the Genetics book story. I did really good in that class and there was one required text a couple of semesters ago. Medical Genetics was its name and it was clinically orientated (meaning practical application to patient diagnosis).
This was all fine and dandy but the book was only useful for a little part of the semester. The main thing that ensured success in that class was knowing what was going on via the lectures.

All the best my 1-6hour long battery-life friends!
