Hey Guys, what's going on? I am a newbie at AUC and have several dilemmas that need to be addressed..I would really appreciate your help! First and foremost, I won't be able to make it to AUC till the monday, September 1st, when school starts due to a family matter. I was wondering how CRITICAL it's to attend the AUC orientation and the first day of classes??? Also, I am looking for apartments right now and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions around Cupecoy, like Blue Azur and Cote D' Azur Marina? How about Simpson Bay Lagoon? I know it sounds like I am in a mess, how'd ya know, but I know things will pan out..especially if the generous souls of AUC come through for me!

Hey,

First things first, Congratulations on your acceptance to AUC, and Welcome to our humble abode. I am also sorry to hear about your dilemma, and not being able to arrive AUC before September 1st. :(

In any case, I don't know anything about first day of classes, orientation, or any of that, being a newbie myself. What I do know from reading this posts, and from other very helpful students, is that Cupecoy, Bleu Azur, and Cote Azur, are all located within walking distance from campus. I do advise you to use the search in this forum, and put housing, or apartments, you will find some very helpful past posts about your inquiry.

Anyways, I hope I have been of some help, although I might not know much, what I do know I can always share.

Well, take care, and best of luck with everything.
Pamela :D

BTW, You should post your info in the newbie thread, were most of us newbies who use this forums have done the same.

It's like post or else... haha.

Wow, you're going to have it rough settling in and starting classes. Just be prepared and welcome to our Newbiethon Sept 2003, where you will enjoy tons of harassment unless you sign in to our newbie thread. lol. Congrats!!!

See you in Sept!!!

Just my opinion. Poorly managed, very poor rep. That's about the gist of it.

The first day is only orientation. Your classes wont start until the following day. If you cant make it to orientation dont sweat it. Just try to make it for class the next day. You can always ask classmates about what you missed .

is just like in undergrad most of the time is spend going ove rthe syllabus so get one of your newbie fraternity to pick up an extra copy of them for you. stay away from blue azur i have heard nothing but bad stories about the shady landlord that no one knows how to contact or where he lives just when he comes for his check...put it this way things are so shady there that just this semester there have been 2 groups of students that said goodbye to their $1200 deposit just to move out. that has to be the only building in this area with 22 vacancies now..hehe i've heard good things about cote azur marina, and cote azur residence. but it all depends on the land lord so try and get referrences from the landlord and check them out. i've heard that cupe coy is really nice but since they have their own power generator and water supply they charge a lot for utilities so the two that i know live there pay $400-600 per month just in utilities! the others i don't know. later

Todd, and everyone else that replied, thanks for the quick reply. I guess it's not a big deal if I miss the orientation but how about the first day of classes..am I going to miss a lot since AUC is saying that classes start the same day as orientation? I guess I am a little bit jittery, only cause it's med school, but I just want to start the right way. Any newbies out there willing to take a few notes for me and pickup some handouts or whatever they're giving out? I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the info, that does sound like a lot for utilities! So basically that means that anything in Cupecoy will entail extensive utility charges..right? I guess the search continues, anyone have any sugesstions? Thanks.

You shouldnt miss any class work on the day of orientation which is Sept 1, right? You will probably be done by noon. First semester classes actually start on Tuesday the 2nd at 8am. The only thing you will miss during Orientation is the introduction to your profs and how to conduct everyday life here on the island.
