View Full Version : My lifelong dream...possible at AUC?

I have a few questions about acceptance factors:
I attend the oldest/(most prestigious?) public university in the nation, Univ. of NC at Chapel Hill. Will this be considered for admission?
I have chosen a very difficult major at my university (** Biochemistry). Will this be seen as a plus to the admissions committee?
My GPA will be around 2.7-3.0 when I graduate (probably closer to the lower one :-/ ). Will this be a turn-off or turn-on to the committee?
I will have TONS of volunteering, surgical shadowing, internships, and other extracurricular activities in the ER and OR as well as participation in collegiate athletics (ice hockey).
So, I guess my big question is how am I doing so far, and what else can I do to better my chances of admission?
Also, I will be coming to St. Maarten Aug. 13-17 to visit the school and relax with mom and dad. We will stay at Divi Little Beach resort hotel. If any current students would like to meet and show me around the school that wouldn't be too bad.
Thank you all for your time,
Thomas Thekkekandam

Well, your chances at admission are as good as the next fella, I think. While it says something that you are in a major university and difficult major, you still need to make certain you get the best grades you can get. I know of people with lower grades who got accepted here, but 'supposedly' AUC's admissions standards are getting tougher.
Oh yes, you didn't mention the MCAT. I think that is now absolutely mandatory, so you need to take it, if you haven't already.
Divi is a fair drive away from the school. It's all the way over in P'burg on Great Bay. It's a nice place, and Breat Bay is.... well... great! But you'll be 30-45 minutes from the school.
As for showing you around, I could volunteer for a short time one afternoon, maybe, but keep in mind that Finals start on the 16th, so you are coming at a time that is very tough to pull students away from their books!

Medic,
Thank you for your quick response! :D I have not yet taken the MCAT, as I am only a rising junior. Next semester I will finish my last physics class, and will have had all the chem, physics and biology on the MCAT. So I will be taking it at the end of NEXT summer. Thanks for offering to show me around, I trust a student more than having a staff member show me around, but only if youre completely sure you'll still have enough time to study. Also, the guy that lived across the suite from my room actually lives in St. Maarten! Thats how I first learned about the school.

With average MCAT you should get in. G
I didn't know UNC had a hockey team.
I'd admit you just for that. Forget the MCAT.

Thank you all again for your replies. I noticed you said average MCAT. What scores are considered average? Also about the hockey, its a semi "club/varsity" team. This means we get some funding from the University and a rink close by with UNC logos all over and under the ice, but we players also have to pay some fees. We also play all along the east coast from NY to Florida and as far west as Kentucky, some teams club and others varsity. Its all good fun, but hard to balance that and studies. :?

it'l be nice having another mustang geek here...we are in relatively few numbers as most of the guys here seem to prefer european cars :x and of course those nasty little lawn mowers with rims.....as far as i am concerned there is no substitute for cubic inches, a shot of NOS, and 2 12's blastin while you smoke some rice  .....hehe nice hood, side pipes, and spring height? can't tell from the pic but i prefer the 16" welds or 17" ROH's as opposed to the pony's peace

It's funny to see all those guys with the little 4 cyl Hondas and Mitsus around here revving their bumblebee engines. Then a quick mash on the gas of a musclecar and they turn into little dots in the rearview. It has dynomax dual side exhaust, 16" chrome GT rims wearing Kumho 245/50 tires. The car has also been lowered with Eibach 1.5" Pro-kit. Rrod you sound like you know a lil about cars...you have a Mustang or something?
Anencephalic, I always wanted a lawntractor "rollin' on dubbs"
If I can get into AUC, and become a doctor, I'll still always drive a car with an American V8. Dads got an S430 though...pretty nice to drive when I get the chance, I must admit...
