Before anyone starts yelling the subject line was a joke...

I’m taking down three dogs, one of which is St. Bernard who’s shipping is gonna cost me well over 4 figures, so I certainly don’t plan on taking them back to the US on breaks.
Do any of you other ‘crazy dog people’ have any dog-sitting suggestions? Mine have never been to the kennel (much less one in a country that probably has no regulations on the matter), so I’d rather then stay with someone.

I was assuming my wife or I would meat a dog-friendly local on one our walks, and we could offer them a hunk of cash to baby sit for the two weeks.

Any other ideas, suggestions, or experience on the topic? Anyone who loves dogs and want’s to stay on SXM for break and make a few bucks?

Probably thinking too far ahead, but thought I’d try.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,
I'm sorry I have no idea how to help you, I'm not a student of AUC (starting at another school this Sept.) but I am glad to hear I am not the only crazy Dog Lover facing these issues--good luck!!

Joe,

Hey there! Glad to hear there is someone else out there (except for me, Jon and Pamela) who are bringing pets with us! A St. Bernard huh? Wow...that's a lot of love to bring him down, especially to pay that money - I like that. Anyway, I have a golden retriever and a cat and if I had a big enough place, whenever I stayed I would love to watch them, but there is no way - my place isn't big enough.

I would contact Faith Dillard (she has numerous posts on this forum) though. She told me that there is a married couple on the island that are both vets and board animals.

Wow, I don't remember mentioning I was bringing a pet with me........could this be ESP Lynsey, because I do have a precious member of the family, who walks with four legs. Unfortunately, I am not bringing him with me; he is a one and a half year old, 105 lb Akita, who gets bathed, and groomed every four Tuesdays. So needless to say, he is quite spoiled.......I also have to cook for him every day, since he refuses to eat any dog food....ok, so he is really spoiled.

In any case, the heat would kill him, right now in Massachusetts it's around 85 degrees, and he only leaves the house twice a day for only bathroom breaks. He then quickly returns to our really cold, airconditioned house.....he has a really thick coat.

Anyway, I am glad that some of you guys will be bringing your loved ones. So having said that, I will be willing to take care of them the breaks I end up not leaving the island. As of now, I am certain, I will leave the island for December break, however, I might be staying for the April break. I'll let you guys know later in the semester; I will also not charge anything for my services, it will be my pleasure. :D

Take care to all, and sorry for the long post,
Pamela :D

Well, it is ceritainly nice to hear that there are other 'dog-nuts'. Our big girl is a 'short haired' St. Bernard and I'm from North Carolina, so it is actually hotter up here. I think she'll be fine and enjoy a good swim at the beach. Besides, I'm not sure I could have gotten my wife down here without all our dogs anyway...

I'll check into the Vet/Boarders. Maybe we'll all talk and arrange some sort of system with all the dog people...

Thanks for the help. See you on the beach! (Then in the damn classroom...)

Hey Pam,
If he forced you mix drinks for him, he'd be supremely spoiled!

Aloha,
