Go easy on telling them that you are going to be a student @ SMU SOM. For some reason, I found that some landlords didn't want to rent to SMU students for previous bad experiences, whatever that might have been. One bad apple spoils the bunch? who knows... just go easy... maybe you're coming here to work... (I mean, you will be WORKING your tail off IN SCHOOL, but... ) Not suggesting you outright lie, but... Plus, much better success for me in person a week early on GC. Remember, most places lease starting on the 1st of EACH month. Since classes start after the 1st, you might want to get a jump on it, or plan to spend a month in the even more expensive and "not-conducive-to-studying" hotels.

Nice of Mr. Luke to take time to post this here. He's like the majority of the admin. @ SMU that you will encounter. They will bend over backwards to help you out. And I'm not just cheerleading... he helped me a lot with immigration stuff.

ABsolutely correct, when I was on the island pre Ivan, I found the same thing, when I told them I was a student from the med school, I was rejected flat out, twice...So I did what anyone with a wife and kid would do, I LIED! I got a nice apartment and was happy. By the way when theyt asked what I did I told them I was a NJ representative on a fact finding mission, which I am because I represedn the street I lived on in NJ and I was trying to find out facts about the medicine, but why go into that much detail?

do the landlords ever want to see any kind of proof of employment, immigration status? if so, how do you get around it if you've just told a white lie?
do tlandlords often want you to sign a long term lease?

I have an infant. Are the apartments in general well sound proofed? (just in case he starts teething at exam week):p
