Osteopathic - D.O.

I assume people go abroad for medical school because they are not accepted by U.S. schools. However, some Osteopathic D.O. schools seem to report lower average GPA/MCAT of their students than some of the schools abraod, and I assume D.O. schools are not much more difficult to get in than the schools abroad. Do people still choose to go abroad even if they were accepted by a D.O. school in the U.S.? maybe they didn't consider D.O. at all? perhaps because they would rahter get a M.D. than a D.O.?

Did you consider/apply to D.O.? I'm interested to find out...

But i wanted to let you know that my roomate's ex-gf is leaving her DO school at NYIT (in the USA) if she is accepted into St. Chris for the Jan 2004 term. She told me how she was afraid of the preference for MD over DO these days so she would rather go abroad and receive an MD. double doozy, good catch micro :wink: , does that mean "I" and "myself" canceled eachother and IDOM was not part of the consideration to DO schools? :shock:

i think it is just plain ignorant or a weak excuse. there is a difference,yes, but one is not better than the other. At the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, they share the same classes, and I assume it is like that in most cases. My primary doc is a DO, i would have never realized it except i peeked over on his name tag. :lol: 8)
But like name brands (versace better than DKNY) , ppl will always judge and prefer. :roll:

I meant myself DUH :roll: , but ya i agree it is ignorant to think MD is better than DO, BUT in today's paranoid society your average Joe or Jane doesn't know the difference and if given a choice between DO and MD, they would choose the MD. there was actually an interesting survey done on this and form what I remember the average person looked at the MD tag.
