A greenbook rotation is one that is accredited by the ACGME, which accredits MD residency programs in the United States. The ACGME produces a book every year with the list of hospitals and programs, and it has a green cover, hence the name greenbook. You can access the greenbook online for free here: http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/
A green rotation is opposed to a blue rotation. A blue rotation is also called the "family practice umbrella". Watch out for these sites. These hospitals offer core rotations but are only accredited in a Family Practice residency. Ross and St. Matthews have some sites like this. Some of their hospitals are only accredited (green) in Family Practice, yet students do all cores at that hospital. If you do cores in one of these hospitals, your family practice rotation is green but your internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and ob-gyn are blue. Some states approve this. Some do not.
Some medical schools have osteopathic cores, which are rotations in osteopathic (DO) accredited programs approved by the AOA.
Some states want all greenbook clinicals for state liscensure. Meaning no blue and no DO rotations.
Some states allow some green and some blue but no DO rotations.
Some states have a maximum of 12 weeks DO/AOA.
Some states do not care one way or another.
AUC has all greenbook rotations, no umbrella sites, and therefore whichever clinical site you choose, you can practice medicine in all 50 states.
Saba has some green and some blue. You can ask for all greenbook if you want, and you may have to wait for your choice to open up.
Ross has green, blue, and DO/AOA sites. You gotta ask for green if you want green.
SGU is equal to AUC in that all rotations are greenbook.
St. Matthews has green, blue, and DO/AOA sites. Again, ask your clinical advisor for green.
