I spent 11 hours in the lab today, dissecting. It was nice!
Of course, when you can go at your own pace, don't have to follow a lab manual, aren't there to learn, but to discover and photograph, with music playing, and friends with you, not tons of people all trying to get done so they can split.... it's nice!
Enjoy lab when you can, people, things only get harder from there! And your future instructors won't touch Dr. Colborn! He's da man! 8)
Of course, I am wiped out, and ready to crash, soooo.... G'night! :D

What ***** neglected to tell you was that while he was in Anatomy lab, he was "dissecting" the caps off of Caribs and knocking them back...for 11 hours! :P So that's where you were all day...

On a similar note, I was driving around with a local gentleman who took me to an ATM near the Dolphin Casino to get cash for his car that I bought. When I got back from the ATM, he had two brewskis in hand which he drank all the way back to Cole Bay while he was driving...gotta give the man props, though...he did not spill one bit of his suds, a commendable occasion given the nature of the unpaved roads around here. Speaking of commendable occasions,

It is a challenge to drink and drive on the island cause the roads are so bumpy. Since you can't go above 10 MPH on many roads, there are rarely fatal accidents. Gotta love the Caribbean. G

Anatomy rots your brain.
Actually, I think the formalin just polymerizes and cross-links polypetides, actually preserving them rather than allowing them to rot.

Hey...so you decided to buy? I thought the word on the street was it was better to rent/lease, avoiding the numberous vechical checks and extra expenses liscensing the vechical yourself. If you wouldn't mine, could you please give us a run down on why you choose to buy instead of rent and the cost analysis? Thanks

I drive a '94 VW Golf. It's been wrecked, and the doors tend to stick a bit, but it's still better than leasing, IMHO. Of course, there are plenty of folks here who are leasing and are perfectly happy with it. It just is much more expensive than I would want to pay.
Buy: $2000-3000 outright
$240/year ins.
$180 road tax, inspection good for 2 years now, I think.
Lease: ~$1000 to get into car, including 1st month's payment and origination fee(s)/deposit.
$900+/year full-coverage ins.
$250-$325/mo
With ins. and deposit, it will cost you $1500 (or more) to get started, and then you still owe your monthly payment, the total of which will be at LEAST $4000, probably more. Total cost of leasing can be well over $6000 for 2 years. I paid $2500 for my car, and I will probably get $2000 out of it when I leave. So, including insurance and inspections/road tax, even if I did them every year, is only going to be about $1500 or so.
These figures are numbers I have gotten from talking to others who lease their cars, I have no direct experience with leasing, so take it with a grain of salt.
Also, I know one guy who rented a 98~99 Accent, when it broke down (blew the motor), they informed him it wasn't worth fixing and they had no older ones left, and he would have to upgrade his lease to a newer car, increasing his monthly payments substantially (~$65/month?), in the meantime put him in a complete POS Atos he said would barely make it up the hill to P'Burg.... etc. You can hear those kinds of stories all over, so again, take it with a grain of salt. Leasing may work out great for you, but it wasn't worth it to me. :D

when you buy one of these "island cars" not only do you have to worry about all the permits and extra charges but you take a chance on the breakdown since anything that goes wrong will have to be fixed by you. the roads suck so shocks, drivetrain, motor mounts, and anything else in the line can go from bad to worse in no time. if you are lucky enough for it not to break then great you come out winning but remember it is a used car for a reason and you are inheriting someone else's problems. leasing is more expensinve IF you don't run into mechanical problems but i know that when, not if, something breaks or i need brakes, or an oil change i drop it off get a temp car and pick it up when it is done. you can also split the lease with one or two people. b/c there aren't many things to do here so i noticed that 70% of the time my car was sitting there so i split it with 2 people and we have a set schedule when each has the car to do errands and go out and it is working out great for US. i pay $100 per month with insurance included and don't have to worry. it's all on what your preferences are i would rather not deal with any mechanics here, i've seen the people on this island hungry to rip students who they see as walking ATM's at any chance they get why give them one more?...hehe

what kind of cars can you rent there? are they all little tiny cars, or can you get SUV's also. Will you need an SUV to find some hidden beaches, cool sights, etc? are there any benz's and beemers (not that i would, but seeing if i could...)
oh and another question: how far from AUC is all the entertainment, casinos and all that stuff? are there any 24 hour places to eat/study? i've heard there are a few gyms, but what's the one that most (auc) people go to work out?
