There is another forum some of you may find helpful. It is traveltalkonline.com Although it is a vacation forum, it has much general information about the island.
I visited the island and the school in June and was impressed. The cost of living is generally higher than here in Texas, especially the gas. It was about $4 dollars a gal. The 20 oz. sodas were about $1.05, the babyback ribs at the grills along the side of the roads were around $4.00 a slab, and a carton of cigs were $10 (I don't smoke though). Each beach has its own character but everyone I went to was beautiful. I was impressed with all the island visitors...........they came from everywhere!!! I actually met (by far) fewer people from the island than I did from other countries. One lady I talked with said she and her husband sailed from South Africa. They live on the boat and she has worked on the island for 6 months. Air France regularly brings in a load of the French folks, and the cruise ships bring in Americans by the thousands several times a week. Its not just the school.........its the adventure!
