View Full Version : What Residency do you want to do right now?
I was looking through the board and it doesn't look like there has been a thread for both current or new students to say what they think they want to do their residency in....
- Just tell us whether you are a current student or a Jan 2006 student
- If current, what term are you now?
- What specialty you are thinking you want to do now...
- And if you want can include why...
I am a January 2006 student and right now I am leaning towards OB/GYN...
Let everyone know!

Interesting idea. It would be fun to see what people want to do, and compare it to the trend in match lists. (OK, so I have a strange idea of fun)G

Jan 2006 start.
If I could really do any residency I wanted, it would be facial, plastic, reconstructive surgery in downtown Manhattan or in Los Angeles. LOL!
It's fun to dream. But hey, thats how most goals are achieved.
Seriously however, I am shooting for a general surgery residency (categorical). Why? I love examining the internal organs of the human body and seeing how things are connected and function.

I want to do a double internship in Food Animal and Equine at CSU. Then I want to do an Ortho and Gen surg residency at Rood & Riddle or Hagyard-Davidson-McGee in KY.

Consider a good community program if you want to stick with primary care. You will do more when there are no fellows to compete with for procedures/patients. G

I'm not applying for a residency, I just want an MD to pad my resume for when I apply to law school.

Yeah it's 5 years general surgery and then 2 years Trauma/Critical Care. Trauma is not a recognized speciality, so there aren't many programs, hence they are pretty competetive. That's why I it's a bit of a risk to go in to -- don't know if I could spend the rest of my life as a general surgeon if I didn't get the fellowship.
For a list, see:

How to cut the bad stuff out and how to sew the good stuff back together"
I LOVE SURGERY!!! WOOO-HOOO!
In case you haven't figured it out I'm vet type. Finishing my prevet here cause none of my vet tech school credits transferred...but I still have those letters after my name. On the quest for more letters. I hope one day to have more letters after my name than in my name. Only 7 more letters to go!

Surgery. Unless you're a DO school, then it's FPActually, DOs aren't stuck with FP in my area at least. There are quite a few ER docs that are DO. Just an aside.

I am interested in Surgery or IM/Cards.
But who knows what I will think once I actually do rotations and actually see what I might be doing for 3-5 years.

10-4 that, but most I have applied to have a, "primary care" mission.
