What is the living situation for the student?

Do people live in dorms? People live with roommates or alone?
If you live in dorms, do you share a room or get a private room?

These questions are mainly directed to the first termers?

1st termer shares a room w/ a roommate.
u can live alone as a upper termer by winning the housing lottery.
run a search.

How does the roommate thing work? Is there a formula or just random? Do they match you by age, sex, race, etc? or just random??

bayshore tend to match roommate pretty well.
they send u a form and u fill it out specifing what type of roommate u want and the type of person u are and stuff like that...

what if you don't want to live at dorms but rent out an apt...r we able to do that?

Also, does first termers alway match with first termers?
How about if you are premed students? Are they in same campus?
Are there more than one campus?

For your first term you are obligated to live on campus unless you have children or pets that you're bringing with you. Upper termers have the option of entering a housing lottery if they want to live on campus.

There are two campuses, True Blue and Grand Anse. But I think Grand Anse only has living quarters, no academic buildings.

1st termers 99% match with 1st termers, very rarely 1st termers get to room with an upper termer

premed students live on TB or GA also

and i think GBMD answered all the other Qs

Or you can find a roommate on VMD. That helps too!

The rumor mill turns this way... Grand Anse is being phased out once SD4 is built... SD4 was supposed to be done for the Fall 2005 class... obviously that hasn't happened yet. By the way, SD4 has 2 levels now! They're working on the third, but let's celebrate one victory at a time! ;)

that's been in the rumor mill for years! They keep saying this term's class will be the last in GA (in fact the Sandblast spring of 2004 was the "last" one at GA!).Believe it when I see it.

Yeah, I still remember being one of the "lucky ones" to see SD3 being completed. When we got down here, it was still being finished but they still stuffed folks in there. :) Anyone know when SD3 started being constructed (e.g., actually digging and putting stuff in)? Just curious.

When I started in 2004, they still had a sign on it: To be completed August 2002...

Officially, no you can't do this. Unofficially, yes it's fairly easy to do this. In fact, the easiest way would be just to tell them that you are going to bring a pet down and are going to need off campus housing. (I believe you can also do one bedroom w/pet at GA campus also...)

However, I would recommend doing the roommate thing for your first term unless you feel absolutely strongly about it. After your first term, it's up to you. Some people prefer to live on campus, citing convenience to library, etc.. and feeling more connected with the rest of the class. If you're someone like myself, older or doesn't necessarily care about the whole social thing, then off-campus housing might be right up your alley. There's quite a big percentage of us that live off campus. The best time to look around for housing is right after mid-terms. Asking for an older student on your housing application is probably your best bet at finding someone that's laid back and knows how to respect your space. I got lucky and found someone off these forums to room with and I don't think I could have had a better roomie situation for 1st term but we were both in our 30s and knew what to expect from each other. Too bad he had health problems halfway through the term and had to fly home. Anyway, good luck to ya.

Will defer answers to 1 and 2 to people more knowledgeable.

3. There are off-campus housing located right outside the school complex (5 minute walk) and there are off-campus housing further away. The farthest walking distance off-campus housing is probably about a 15-minute walk from campus. There are people who live at Grand Anse and that is a 10-15 minute bus ride. There are people who live at Lance Aux Epines which is a 10-15 minute bus ride. These buses are provided by the school.

4. The only "off-campus" dorm is the Grand Anse campus. I don't know about the rooming situation there.

5. There are private rooms (singles) on-campus.

1. only if u are an upper termer (undergard u would have to stay in the undergard dorms for 1 yr, i think the same goes with premed and prevet)

2. varies, depending on ur lifestyle and the pff campus place u want to live at

3. varies

4. the only "occ campus" is GA and no it doesnt have a single, but u could request one and if u are lucky, u get the single in GA.

5. yes.

How is the arrangement in the rooms that you have to share? Is it two separate bedrooms with a shared kitchen? Is there even a kitchen per room? Is it one bathroom per two people or do you have to share with several rooms?

jaywalk81

its one bedroom with 2 single beds.
when you walk in, it will be the kitchenette followed by the space where the 2 beds, desks, and closets will be. the bathroom is in everyroom and shared by you and your roomie.
