I read earlier that all residencies begin in March once a year. Do the graduating class of the Spring or Summer semester have to wait such a long time before they can begin residency? The spring semester will graduate sometime in May, and the Summer semester will graduate sometime in August. Since residencies only begin during March would those graduating classes have to wait until the next March to come around so that they begin their residency? Can someone please clarify this information for me. Thank you very much.

Since this is something I am asked constantly on the Maine campus, I will be meeting with the administration about having a seminar to explain the whole residency process. I have one program director who may be able to give input (depending if it is approved, and if there is time). Would you guys be interested in attending an event like this? (sorry can't do it for the Cayman Campus, but maybe something can be planned for the future).

Or better yet, maybe someone on the Cayman campus will be willing to follow your lead and coordinate it there.

Can a Student during their Clinical Rotations apply to Residencies? For example if you were to finish and graduated in April could this student still be matched in March, a month before graduation? Thus begin there residency in June or July?

I heard that you must be done with your clinicals two weeks before graduation. I suggest you go to the Official SMU forum and ask, then give us the heads up.

Most students are doing rotations durig their 4th year while they are aplying for residency. You can mathc in March if you will be finish (graduated) I believe by May. Hope this helps

You can finish up your rotations as you are applying/going to interviews, but you must graduate and pass step II before you start residency. Unless you take a month off in between each rotation you should have no problem finishing up the 76 or so weeks of rotations and starting residency in July (assuming you started med school in August).

You guys should all read "Iserson's Getting Into A Residency." Great book, I read it during my 2nd semester break and would recommend it for all med students.

Iserson's Getting Into A Residency is a great book. I spent one evening reading it while at Barnes and Nobles. A must read.
