It seems that South Sea/Dutch Tulip/dot-com bubbles are now coming to the field of medical education. 30 new medical schools in the Carib. since 2000? I find it exceedingly difficult to believe that even half of them would be able to survive long-term, which only creates an additional problem for those students who have chosen to attend all those newly created schools, as was most recently seen with Kigezi, which apparently failed so abruptly and violently that students even had problems securing their transcripts.
Also interesting, that the third world governments of the Caribbean so openly admits, that they treat medical school charters like any other business license. If the current expansion persists, I personally see little alternative to a wider adoption of the Calif. approval system as an added safeguard to the USMLE examinations.
I can only say: Buyer beware.
