I am a first termer and I just checked out the schedule that was sent to us in our e-mail. I am REALLY surprised about the schedule after January. I thought that the schedule would go from January to May, but with the included 3rd term (and no break between 2nd and 3rd), it looks like we are in school from January until the END of June!

The reason I guess I'm so surprised is because I have a couple of friends in US schools (one MD and one DO) and they both only have classes until May. So my question is, if we are "on par" with the US schools, why do our classes run so much longer? I honestly have concerns about making it for over 6 straight months with no break; I mean, hey, I'll do it, but it seems very daunting. Plus, since I'm taking the Prague selective for 3 weeks in July, it looks like I won't have too much time otherwise over the summer.
Anyway, just though I would see how some of the rest of you fared who completed terms 2 and 3 and how you made it through 6 1/2 months of med school!!

I would not put thrid term under the category fo "school" persay. You will find that once thrid term comes along you will spend 92 percent of the time on the beach causing damage to your DNA repair genes. Or if you prefer many students take some time to go home or travel around the islands, like going to Margarita, or if you want you can get certified for scuba. Third term is by far the easiest time here in Grenada.
Though the credits are easy and you will have tons of free time i do urge you to so to do at least an hour or two of work a day or every other afternoon, thats what I did and i got A's. So put in a little work and it will go a long way in third term.
Another perk of thrid term in the Behavioral science dept has a "wonderful" selcetion of movies, I recommend "twitch and shout"

There is always a 6 month tenure, if you come in in Aug its 2nd and 3rd term, if you come in in Jan its 3rd and 4th term ( and count yourself lucky, because of Ivan we were in Grenada from Jan 8th to JULY 10th-2 weeks longer!!) And yes that stretch is a bit to take- you're ready to kill some one by May!
As for being on "par" with the US school- our education maybe, but not the breaks! US Students get Thanksgiving, Easter, Fall Break, Spring Break, even Yom Kippur!! off and we get bupkus!!! Even when there is a 3 day weekend, they spoil it by putting a test at the end of it!!!
But really, we're in school for 14 months total (4.5- term 1, 4 term 2, 1.5term 3, 4 term 4, and 4 - term 5/6) which is less than the US student does (8 months M1 and 8 months M2)- 16 months.

I'm not going to comment on the comparison between US and SGU, just though I'd point out that 4.5+4+1.5+4+4 = 18 >16. So if all those numbers are right, then we've got an extra two months compared to the US students. Crap.

so I can't do math (everyone who knows me knows this), But we do get (well Jan term ) 5 months between 2nd and 3rd year!!

It's a long stretch but at least you have a nice little break before your Prague Selective. Those of us who went through Ivan had to fly straight from Grenada to Prague (e.g., our last final was on Friday, we had to get to Prague for registration on Sunday). It didn't help that Air Jamaica was being stupid but that's a totally different story.
3rd term isn't bad at all but it doesn't mean you should slack completely. The previous advice to keep up with studies is a wise one.
The long stretch will pass before you know it and Prague is without a doubt well worth the wait.

4th year is the reward for 3rd year baby!!(only 22 weeks of electives) and after say Nov or Dec- they all know you're almost worthless (and there is nothing more worthless than a matched 4th year!!!).

Does anyone know if there are any breaks next term? Someone mentioned there is no Easter, so I was wondering if there is any kind of spring break at all.

That is a really good point; I would love to know when midterms or other exams fall.
