View Full Version : UCI IM residency... (stephew)
On their website it says
"All international graduates must have a California Letter at the time of application."
Does that mean in order to get a residency there I would have to sit out a year? If anyone else knows anything about this I would love to here your input!
Are a lot of california programs like this?

yes, it means what it says, and yes, a lot of CA programs are like this. many apparently have been burned by matching folks that either never get the letter, or get it later than expected, and therefore are hesitent to interview without it.
i graduated early, got the letter just about 2 days ago, and am having to fax it to all my CA programs for interviews. i only recieved 2 ivites without it, and have been told by several programs that they won't interview me without it (some even require the ECFMG cert to interview!!)
there are many programs that will interview you without the letter, but just be aware of the ones that won't, and either don't waste your money applying, or get your letter before you do. best of luck!

My parents sent me a post card from San Francisco last month. I'm planning on using that if I ever need one. G

FWIW, I've heard that many California hospitals who have previously taken SGU grads will take you without the letter.

Have people in past gotten cali IM residencies at university institutions? I know that some have gotten IM residencies at San Joaquin hospital and at Kern medical center. But what about at the UCs or at USC?
